\n380. אַף הוּא פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (תהלים קלא) ה’ לֹא גָבַהּ לִבִּי וְלֹא רָמוּ עֵינַי וְגוֹ’. פָּסוּק זֶה אָמַר דָּוִד בְּשָׁעָה שֶׁהָיָה הוֹלֵךְ עַל שְׂפַת הַנָּהָר, (וְהָיָה אוֹמֵר) רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, כְּלוּם הָיָה בֶּן אָדָם שֶׁהוֹדָה וְשִׁבַּח לַאֲדוֹנוֹ כָּמוֹנִי?! הִזְדַּמְּנָה לוֹ צְפַרְדֵּעַ, אָמְרָה לוֹ: דָּוִד, לֹא תִתְגָּאֶה, שֶׁאֲנִי עָשִׂיתִי יוֹתֵר מִמְּךָ, שֶׁמָּסַרְתִּי גוּפִי עַל דְּבַר קוֹנִי, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (שמות ז) וְשָׁרַץ הַיְאֹר צְפַרְדְּעִים, וַהֲרֵי פֵּרְשׁוּהוּ. וְעוֹד, שֶׁאֲנִי מְשַׁבַּחַת וּמְזַמֶּרֶת לַיְלָה וָיוֹם בְּלִי הַפְסָקָה. בְּאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה אָמַר דָּוִד, ה’ לֹא גָבַהּ לִבִּי וְלֹא רָמוּ עֵינַי. ה’ לֹא גָבַהּ לִבִּי.
\n381. זֶהוּ קָרְבָּן שֶׁבְּכָל יוֹם וּבְכָל זְמַן וּזְמַן אֵצֶל הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, שֶׁנִּכְלֶלֶת כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל בּוֹ בֵּין כָּל שְׁאָר חֵילוֹתֶיהָ, וְכָל אוֹתָן הָעֲבוֹדוֹת מוֹצִיאִים אוֹתָהּ מִבֵּין הַקּוֹצִים וּמִבֵּין שְׁאָר הָאֻמּוֹת. כָּךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל, כָּל זְמַן שֶׁהֵם אֲטוּמֵי לֵב וְלֹא פוֹתְחִים בִּתְשׁוּבָה, לֹא מַעֲלִים רֵיחַ וְלֹא מוֹצִיא אוֹתָם מִבֵּין הַקּוֹצִים. אֲבָל כַּאֲשֶׁר פּוֹתְחִים בִּתְשׁוּבָה, מִיָּד מַעֲלִים רֵיחַ, וְיוֹצִיא אוֹתָם מִבֵּין הַקּוֹצִים, וְתֵהָנֶה בָהֶם כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (שיר השירים ה) פִּתְחִי לִי אֲחֹתִי רַעְיָתִי. שֶׁכָּל זְמַן שֶׁהַשּׁוֹשַׁנָּה אֲטוּמָה, אֵין לָהּ רֵיחַ וְלֹא עוֹלָה מִבֵּין הַקּוֹצִים, וְדִירָתָהּ בֵּינֵיהֶם, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר. וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא לֹא שָׁלַח אוֹתָנוּ לָלֶכֶת דֶּרֶךְ זוֹ אֶלָּא לִלְמֹד דְּבָרִים אֵלּוּ.
\n382. עַד שֶׁהָיוּ יוֹשְׁבִים, בָּא נֶשֶׁר וְיָרַד, וְנָטַל שׁוֹשַׁנָּה אַחַת מִבֵּינֵיהֶם וְהָלַךְ. אָמְרוּ, מִכָּאן וָהָלְאָה נֵלֵךְ לְדַרְכֵּנוּ. קָמוּ וְהָלְכוּ. עַד כָּאן דַּרְכּוֹ שֶׁל רַבִּי פִּנְחָס, וְרַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן הָלַךְ לוֹ, הוּא וְרַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר וּשְׁאָר הַחֲבֵרִים, וְרַבִּי פִּנְחָס וּשְׁאָר הַחֲבֵרִים.\n<\/div>\n

Pinchas 380-382<\/strong><\/p>\n

King David was walking on a river bank saying ‘Master of the world, was there a man that praised and gave thanks to you like me?’<\/p>\n

While saying that, a frog appeared in front of him and said ‘David, don’t be proud, I did more than you because I gave all myself when God said (Exodus 7:28<\/a>) “וְשָׁרַץ הַיְאֹר, צְפַרְדְּעִים” “And the river shall swarm with frogs” (from the second plague on Egypt) and in addition I praise God day and night without a break.<\/p>\n

Then King David said Psalms 131:1<\/a>
\n“יְהוָה, לֹא-גָבַהּ לִבִּי– וְלֹא-רָמוּ עֵינַי;
\nוְלֹא-הִלַּכְתִּי, בִּגְדֹלוֹת וּבְנִפְלָאוֹת מִמֶּנִּי. ”
\n“YHVH<\/a>, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in things too great or in things too wonderful for me.”<\/p>\n

In the world of Malchut<\/a>, even King David, the symbol of humility that always put himself below God and others was tested for his pride. God sent him the frog to remind him to be humble. King David immediately corrected himself and added Psalms 131.<\/p>\n

Pride is an expression of the desire for the self. It creates individuality while in the eyes of God we are not so. It doesn’t matter if we are proud of our positive actions, meditation for others, giving donations and Tzedakah. Everything in this world is just a tool in our hands to better our souls by doing for others.<\/p>\n

King Davis sums it up in six words in 1 Chronicle 29:14<\/a> “כִּי-מִמְּךָ הַכֹּל, וּמִיָּדְךָ נָתַנּוּ לָךְ.” “for all things come of you, and of your own hand we give to you.”
