1. וַיֵּשֶׁב יַעֲקֹב בְּאֶרֶץ מְגוּרֵי אָבִיו בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן. רַבִּי חִיָּיא פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (תהלים לד) רַבּוֹת רָעוֹת צַדִּיק וּמִכֻּלָּם יַצִּילֶנּוּ ה’ בֹּא רְאֵה כַּמָּה מְקַטְרְגִים יֵשׁ לוֹ לָאָדָם מִן הַיּוֹם שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא נָתַן בּוֹ נְשָׁמָה [ד”א לָאָדָם] [לְהִתְקַיֵּם] בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה, שֶׁכֵּיוָן שֶׁאָדָם יוֹצֵא לַאֲוִיר הָעוֹלָם, מִיָּד מִזְדַּמֵּן לְהִשְׁתַּתֵּף עִמּוֹ יֵצֶר הָרָע, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר, שֶׁכָּתוּב (בראשית ד) לַפֶּתַח חַטָּאת רֹבֵץ וְגוֹ’, וְאָז מִשְׁתַּתֵּף עִמּוֹ יֵצֶר הָרָע.

Zohar Vayeshev<\/strong><\/p>\n

Genesis 37:1<\/a>
\n“וַיֵּשֶׁב יַעֲקֹב, בְּאֶרֶץ מְגוּרֵי אָבִיו–בְּאֶרֶץ, כְּנָעַן.”
\n“So Jacob settled again in the land of Canaan, where his father had lived as a foreigner.”<\/p>\n

The Zohar quotes this verse and immediately connects “Jacob settled” to hardship.<\/p>\n

Psalms 34:20<\/a>
\n“רַבּוֹת, רָעוֹת צַדִּיק; וּמִכֻּלָּם, יַצִּילֶנּוּ יְהוָה”
\n“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but YHVH<\/a> delivers him out of them all.”<\/p>\n

Even if a person is righteous it doesn’t stop the negative side from ‘attacking’ him.<\/p>\n

When a child comes out to the world the negative side is ready by the opening of the womb, and attaches itself to the soul of the child. (Genesis 4:7<\/a>) “sin is crouching at the door”<\/p>\n

When a person feels that he ‘settled’, troubles come.
\nThe world was created with the principle of movement and continuation. The upper levels that bring life to the world don’t have the aspect of time. In the world of Malchut<\/a> we must have goals and progress, otherwise we bring the aspect of end that immediately attracts the negative side.<\/p>\n

Every aspect of our lives is a process of life and we can not rest until our last breath of life.<\/p>\n

As we can read from the portion of Vayeshev, Jacob wasn’t hurt directly because of his righteousness but the events around him caused him great pain and loss of spiritual connection.<\/p>\n
