Leviticus 26:3<\/a>
\n“אִם-בְּחֻקֹּתַי, תֵּלֵכוּ; וְאֶת-מִצְו‍ֹתַי תִּשְׁמְרוּ, וַעֲשִׂיתֶם אֹתָם”
\n“If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,”<\/p>\n

The Zohar asks: why it says ‘do’ after ‘walk’ and ‘observe’. It seems unnecessary, and the Zohar answers that when we follow and observe the Torah the outcome is the making of a connection to the Holy name.<\/p>\n

2 Samuel 8:13<\/a>
\n“וַיַּעַשׂ דָּוִד, שֵׁם, בְּשֻׁבוֹ, מֵהַכּוֹתוֹ אֶת-אֲרָם בְּגֵיא-מֶלַח–שְׁמוֹנָה עָשָׂר, אָלֶף”
\n“So David made a name, when he returned from killing 18,000 Arameans in the Valley of Salt.”<\/p>\n

The Zohar quotes this verse to show that King David made a name, which is a name of God. It was after he won a big war. As we know King David was always in connection with God. Every step he did was with full consciousness and support of YHVH<\/a>. He used to wake up every midnight to study and make connection to the Holy name.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the English and other language translations translate it as if King David made a name for himself. It is wrong because he was always humble and translators want it to make sense of the verse even though the word that is related to ‘self’ is missing from the verse.<\/p>\n

The opposite aspect of making a Holy name is in a different story in the Torah. A person from a negative seed created a separation between the Holy name and Malchut<\/a> and had to be corrected by death.<\/p>\n

Leviticus 26:11<\/a>
\n“וַיִּקֹּב בֶּן-הָאִשָּׁה הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִית אֶת-הַשֵּׁם, וַיְקַלֵּל, וַיָּבִיאוּ אֹתוֹ, אֶל-מֹשֶׁה; וְשֵׁם אִמּוֹ שְׁלֹמִית בַּת-דִּבְרִי, לְמַטֵּה-דָן”
\n“and the Israelite woman’s son blasphemed the Name, and cursed. Then they brought him to Moses. His mother<\/a>’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.”<\/p>\n

Leviticus 26:16<\/a>
\n“וְנֹקֵב שֵׁם-יְהוָה מוֹת יוּמָת”
\n“Whoever blasphemes the name of YHVH<\/a> shall surely die”<\/p>\n

Disconnecting from the Holy name brings the aspect of death because without the name, the light can’t come to the vessel, Malchut<\/a>.<\/p>\n

King David is the aspect of Malchut<\/a> because he made continuous connection to the Holy name and drew light to the world. He merited that Mashiach will come from his seeds.<\/p>\n

When we study directly from the sacred text we make names that help us individually and the world around us.<\/p>\n

Make a ‘name’ for yourself. It does ‘make’ sense.<\/p>\n
