20. תָּשׁוּרִי מֵרֹאשׁ אֲמָנָה – זֶהוּ גָרוֹן שֶׁמִּשָּׁם יוֹצֵאת רוּחַ לְהַשְׁלִים לַכֹּל, (כֻּלָּהּ) מִסּוֹד הַלְּבָנוֹן הַנִּסְתָּר וְהַגָּנוּז. מֵרֹאשׁ שְׂנִיר וְחֶרְמוֹן – זוֹהִי לָשׁוֹן רֹאשׁ וְאֶמְצַע, שֶׁחוֹתֶכֶת אֶת הַדִּבּוּר. מִמְּעֹנוֹת אֲרָיוֹת – אֵלֶּה הֵם שִׁנַּיִם. מֵהַרְרֵי נְמֵרִים – אֵלֶּה הֵם שְׂפָתַיִם, הַשְּׁלֵמוּת שֶׁבָּהֶם נִשְׁלָם הַדִּבּוּר.
\n21. וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל. רַבִּי חִיָּיא פָּתַח, (משלי כג) אַל תִּלְחַם אֶת לֶחֶם רַע עַיִן וְאַל תִּתְאָו לְמַטְעַמֹּתָיו. אַל תִּלְחַם אֶת לֶחֶם רַע עַיִן – מִשּׁוּם שֶׁלֶּחֶם אוֹ הֲנָאָה מֵאוֹתוֹ אִישׁ שֶׁהוּא רַע עַיִן, אֵינוֹ כְּדַאי לֶאֱכֹל וְלֵהָנוֹת מִמֶּנּוּ. שֶׁאִלּוּ כְּשֶׁיָּרְדוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמִצְרַיִם לֹא טָעֲמוּ לֶחֶם שֶׁל הַמִּצְרַיִם, לֹא הָיוּ נִשְׁאָרִים בַּגָּלוּת, וְלֹא הָיוּ מְצִיקִים לָהֶם הַמִּצְרִים.
\n22. אָמַר לוֹ רַבִּי יִצְחָק, וַהֲרֵי נִגְזְרָה גְזֵרָה? אָמַר לוֹ, הַכֹּל הוּא כָּרָאוּי, שֶׁהֲרֵי לֹא נִגְזַר דַּוְקָא בְּמִצְרַיִם, שֶׁהֲרֵי לֹא כָתוּב כִּי גֵר יִהְיֶה זַרְעֲךָ בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, אֶלָּא (בראשית טו) בְּאֶרֶץ לֹא לָהֶם, וַאֲפִלּוּ בְּאֶרֶץ אַחֶרֶת.<\/div>\n

Proverb 23:6<\/a>
\n“ אַל-תִּלְחַם–אֶת-לֶחֶם, רַע עָיִן; וְאַל-תִּתְאָו, לְמַטְעַמֹּתָיו”
\n“Do not eat the bread of a man who has evil eye; do not desire his delicacies”<\/p>\n

The Zohar explains that the Israelites<\/a> in Egypt enjoyed the food of the Egyptians and that gave the Egyptians the power to hurt the Israelites<\/a>, keeping them in exile for a longer time. If the Israelites<\/a> weren’t connected to their food they would have left Egypt and gotten back to the Promised Land much earlier.
\nTheir bondage in Egypt was also related to the pleasures of the material world.
\nNumbers 11:5<\/a>
\n“זָכַרְנוּ, אֶת-הַדָּגָה, אֲשֶׁר-נֹאכַל בְּמִצְרַיִם, חִנָּם; אֵת הַקִּשֻּׁאִים, וְאֵת הָאֲבַטִּחִים, וְאֶת-הֶחָצִיר וְאֶת-הַבְּצָלִים, וְאֶת-הַשּׁוּמִים”
\n“We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic”<\/p>\n

The energy of the food is what we consume everyday and it affects our soul and spiritual existence. The Torah teaches us about the impure animals and birds that we shouldn’t eat. The living creatures have inner energy and when consumed it can hurt our soul in many ways. It can lead to addictions that eventually make the soul ill and fall into the hands of the other side<\/a>, increasing the desire for the self alone and the material world.<\/p>\n
