49. וַיֵּלֶךְ אַבְרָם כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלָיו ה’. אָמַר רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר, בֹּא רְאֵה, שֶׁהֲרֵי לֹא כָתוּב וַיֵּצֵא אַבְרָם כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלָיו ה’, אֶלָּא וַיֵּלֶךְ, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר לֶךְ לְךָ, שֶׁהֲרֵי בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה עָשׂוּ יְצִיאָה, שֶׁכָּתוּב וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם מֵאוּר כַּשְׂדִּים לָלֶכֶת אַרְצָה כְּנַעַן. וְעַכְשָׁו כָּתוּב וַיֵּלֶךְ, וְלֹא כָתוּב וַיֵּצֵא.

\nZohar Lech Lecha<\/strong>
\nIn the verse before the last one of Noah we read that Terah and Abram ‘went forth’ from Ur of Chaldees and settled in Haran.<\/p>\n

Genesis 11:31<\/a>
\n“וַיִּקַּח תֶּרַח אֶת-אַבְרָם בְּנוֹ, וְאֶת-לוֹט בֶּן-הָרָן בֶּן-בְּנוֹ, וְאֵת שָׂרַי כַּלָּתוֹ, אֵשֶׁת אַבְרָם בְּנוֹ; וַיֵּצְאוּ אִתָּם מֵאוּר כַּשְׂדִּים, לָלֶכֶת אַרְצָה כְּנַעַן, וַיָּבֹאוּ עַד-חָרָן, וַיֵּשְׁבוּ שָׁם”
\n“And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. ”<\/p>\n

Shortly after, in the beginning of the portion of Lech lecha, Abram follows God’s instructions and leaves Haran.<\/p>\n

Genesis 12:4<\/a>
\n“וַיֵּלֶךְ אַבְרָם, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֵלָיו יְהוָה, וַיֵּלֶךְ אִתּוֹ, לוֹט; וְאַבְרָם, בֶּן-חָמֵשׁ שָׁנִים וְשִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה, בְּצֵאתוֹ, מֵחָרָן.”
\n“So Abram went, as YHVH<\/a> had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him; and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”<\/p>\n

The Zohar explains that the first verse above uses the word ‘וַיֵּצְאוּ’ ‘went forth’ to describe their action as they went out of the negativity of Ur. In the second verse the word used is וילך, ‘and he went\/walked’. The ‘walking’ aspect represents the consciousness of Abram that walked and followed the path given to him by God.<\/p>\n

Rabbi Elazar praised those who walk the ways of the Light with awe and fear of the days they are called to be judged for their actions in this world.<\/p>\n

The lesson from this Zohar is to know that moving from one place to another doesn’t guarantee that there will be no more negativity in our environment. The Snake<\/a> is everywhere unless we follow the ways of God as the Torah guides us and as explained and studied from the Zohar.<\/p>\n

The United States has a new president but that doesn’t mean that everything will be better. It’s up to him and us to follow the Light in order to get rid of the Snake<\/a> that is everywhere. Luckily for the US, this president has a Jewish daughter, son in-law and grandson. We hope they follow the Light and perhaps affect the president to have Shabbat candles every week and maybe even a room with Torah to have a minyan and Torah reading on Shabbat. It could happen when he invites his daughter and her family for Shabbat to the White House. Who knows? It may happen soon, and when it does, we can say the White House became a Light House.<\/p>\n
