42. רַבִּי יוֹחָנָן פָּתַח וְאָמַר, (שיר ב) עַד שֶׁיָּפוּחַ הַיּוֹם וְנָסוּ הַצְּלָלִים סֹב דְּמֵה לְךָ דוֹדִי לִצְבִי אוֹ לְעֹפֶר הָאַיָּלִים. עַד שֶׁיָּפוּחַ הַיּוֹם וְגוֹ’ – זוֹ אַזְהָרָה לָאָדָם בְּעוֹדוֹ בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה שֶׁהוּא כְּהֶרֶף עַיִן. בֹּא רְאֵה מַה כָּתוּב, (קהלת ו) וְאִלּוּ חָיָה אֶלֶף שָׁנִים פַּעֲמַיִם וגו’. בְּיוֹם הַמִּיתָה, כָּל מַה שֶּׁחָיָה, נֶחְשָׁב כְּיוֹם אֶחָד אֶצְלוֹ.
\n43. אָמַר רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן, נִשְׁמָתוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם מַתְרָה בּוֹ וְאוֹמֶרֶת עַד שֶׁיָּפוּחַ הַיּוֹם [וְנָסוּ הַצְּלָלִים], וְיִדְמֶה בְעֵינֶיךָ כְּהֶרֶף עַיִן בְּעוֹדְךָ בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה. וְנָסוּ הַצְּלָלִים, זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב (איוב ח) כִּי צֵל יָמֵינוּ עֲלֵי אָרֶץ. בְּבַקָּשָׁה מִמְּךָ, סֹב דְּמֵה לְךָ דוֹדִי לִצְבִי וגו’.

\nSong of Songs 2:17<\/a>
\n“עַד שֶׁיָּפוּחַ הַיּוֹם, וְנָסוּ הַצְּלָלִים: סֹב דְּמֵה-לְךָ דוֹדִי לִצְבִי, אוֹ לְעֹפֶר הָאַיָּלִים–עַל-הָרֵי בָתֶר”
\n“Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or like a young stag on the rugged hills.”<\/p>\n

Job 8:9<\/a>
\n“כִּי-תְמוֹל אֲנַחְנוּ, וְלֹא נֵדָע: כִּי צֵל יָמֵינוּ עֲלֵי-אָרֶץ”
\n“”For we are only of yesterday and know nothing, Because our days on earth are as a shadow.”<\/p>\n

The Zohar tells us that this is a warning to people that this world passes like a blink of the eye.<\/p>\n

Ecclesiastes 6:6<\/a>
\n“וְאִלּוּ חָיָה, אֶלֶף שָׁנִים פַּעֲמַיִם, וְטוֹבָה, לֹא רָאָה–הֲלֹא אֶל-מָקוֹם אֶחָד, הַכֹּל הוֹלֵךְ”
\n“”Even if man lives a thousand years twice and does not see good — do not all go to one place?””<\/p>\n

Rabbi Shimon says that the soul urges the person to see that life is like a shadow and he should run like a gazelle to follow the will of the Creators because the goal of this life is inherit the world to come that is in heavens and is called the mountain of YHVH<\/a>, mountain of pleasure, mountain of good.<\/p>\n

Our lives in this world is temporary. The system was created for us to go through many ‘temporary lives’ and earn the merit to the Final Redemption.
\nMany people gets old with regrets that they didn’t do everything they wanted to do. The have a bucket list and even if they finished with the list before they die, they stay at the bottom of the mountain.<\/p>\n

Psalms 24:3<\/a>
\n“מִי יַעֲלֶה בְהַר יְהוָה, וּמִי יָקוּם בִּמְקוֹם קָדְשׁוֹ?”
\n“Who may ascend the mountain of YHVH<\/a>? Who may stand in his holy place?”<\/p>\n

We recite this verse at the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and every Sunday to remind us that our main goal for the year and for every week is to climb the mountain.
\nWe should realize that our lives are fragile and could end any day. Only if we make Teshuva<\/a> (repentance<\/a>, soul purification) and come back to the Light, we have a chance to merit the world to come by climbing the mountain.<\/p>\n
