27. דָּבָר אַחֵר וְיָדוֹ אֹחֶזֶת – שֶׁלֹּא יָכֹל לָצֵאת מִמֶּנּוּ מִכֹּל וָכֹל, אֶלָּא וְיָדוֹ אֹחֶזֶת בַּעֲקֵב עֵשָׂו – זוֹ הַלְּבָנָה שֶׁהִתְכַּסָּה אוֹרָהּ מִשּׁוּם הֶעָקֵב שֶׁל עֵשָׂו, וְעַל כֵּן הִצְטָרֵךְ לוֹ לָלֶכֶת עִמּוֹ בְּחָכְמָה כְּדֵי לִדְחוֹתוֹ לְמַטָּה וְיִדְבַּק בִּמְקוֹמוֹ.
\n28. וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ יַעֲקֹב, הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא קָרָא לוֹ יַעֲקֹב וַדַּאי. בֹּא רְאֵה, כָּתוּב הֲכִי קָרָא שְׁמוֹ יַעֲקֹב. לֹא כָתוּב נִקְרָא שְׁמוֹ, אֶלָּא קָרָא שְׁמוֹ. וַיַּעְקְבֵנִי, וַדַּאי רָאָה אוֹתוֹ הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, שֶׁהֲרֵי אוֹתוֹ הַנָּחָשׁ הַקַּדְמוֹנִי הוּא חָכָם לְהָרַע. כֵּיוָן שֶׁבָּא יַעֲקֹב, אָמַר, הֲרֵי וַדַּאי חָכָם כְּנֶגְדּוֹ, וּמִשּׁוּם כָּךְ קָרָא לוֹ יַעֲקֹב.
\n29. הֲרֵי הֵקַמְנוּ בְּכָל מָקוֹם, וַיִּקְרָא סְתָם זוֹ הִיא הַדַּרְגָּה הָאַחֲרוֹנָה, כַּכָּתוּב וַיִּקְרָא אֶל מֹשֶׁה וְגוֹ’. וְכָאן וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ יַעֲקֹב, בְּכָל מָקוֹם שְׁמוֹ לֹא נִקְרָא [אֶלָּא] עַל יְדֵי בֶּן אָדָם. בְּמָקוֹם אַחֵר מַה כָּתוּב? \nZohar Toldot<\/strong><\/p>\n

Genesis 25:26<\/a>
\n“וְאַחֲרֵי-כֵן יָצָא אָחִיו, וְיָדוֹ אֹחֶזֶת בַּעֲקֵב עֵשָׂו, וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ, יַעֲקֹב”
\n“Afterward his brother came forth with his hand holding on to Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob;”<\/p>\n

The Zohar reveals that God gave Jacob his name because of the wise act that he did of separating the negative side from the holy side by holding Esau’s heel.<\/p>\n

After Jacob overcame the challenge of meeting with his brother Esau, he built an altar to give thanks to God for his help.
\nGenesis 33:20<\/a>
\n“וַיַּצֶּב-שָׁם, מִזְבֵּחַ; וַיִּקְרָא-לוֹ–אֵל, אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל”
\n“And he set up an altar there and called it ‘God, the God of Israel<\/a>.’”<\/p>\n

According to the Zohar the verse should be read “And he erected up an altar; and He (God) called him (Jacob) “God אל, the God of Israel<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Jacob was pure and whole with his connection to the YHVH<\/a>. He knew the Right column<\/a>, Abraham, his grandfather. His father, Isaac, was the Left column<\/a>. Jacob knew how to control the Left, Gevurah<\/a> with the Right, Chessed<\/a>, and bring balance, as he proved with his dealing with Esau who hated him for ‘stealing’ the firstborn rights. Earlier, he proved that he could leave Laban, his wicked father in-law with peace. Jacob also fought with the angels of the other side<\/a> and could control him. The ability to balance gave him the control of the Central column and becoming the channel of the Light to the world. God considered Jacob God of the Lower level, because he opened the three lines<\/a>\/columns to the lower world.<\/p>\n
