34. כְּמוֹ כֵן יוֹסֵף הָיָה עָצוּב בְּעֶצֶב הָרוּחַ וּבְעֶצֶב הַלֵּב, שֶׁהָיָה אָסוּר שָׁם. כֵּיוָן שֶׁפַּרְעֹה שָׁלַח בִּשְׁבִילוֹ, מַה כָּתוּב? וַיְרִיצֻהוּ. הִתְפַּיְּסוּ לוֹ וְהֶחֱזִירוּ לוֹ דִּבְרֵי שִׂמְחָה, דְּבָרִים לְשַׂמֵּחַ אֶת הַלֵּב, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהָיָה עָצוּב מִן הַבּוֹר. בֹּא רְאֵה, בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה נָפַל בְּבוֹר, וּבְבוֹר הִתְעַלָּה אַחַר כָּךְ.
\n35. רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן אָמַר, בְּטֶרֶם אֵרַע לְיוֹסֵף אוֹתוֹ הַמַּעֲשֶׂה, לֹא נִקְרָא צַדִּיק. כֵּיוָן שֶׁשָּׁמַר אוֹתָהּ בְּרִית הַמִּילָה, נִקְרָא צַדִּיק, וְאוֹתָהּ הַדַּרְגָּה שֶׁל בְּרִית הַקֹּדֶשׁ הִתְעַטְּרָה עִמּוֹ, וּמַה שֶּׁהָיָה [עוֹשֶׂה] בַּבּוֹר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה, הִתְעַלָּה עִמּוֹ. וְכָתוּב וַיְרִיצֻהוּ מִן הַבּוֹר. הִתְעַלָּה מִזֶּה וְהִתְעַטֵּר בִּבְאֵר מַיִם חַיִּים.
\n36. וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה וַיִּקְרָא אֶת יוֹסֵף, הָיָה צָרִיךְ לִהְיוֹת לִקְרֹא לְיוֹסֵף! אֶלָּא, וַיִּקְרָא אֶת יוֹסֵף – זֶה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, שֶׁכָּתוּב (שם קה) עַד עֵת בֹּא דְבָרוֹ אִמְרַת ה’ צְרָפָתְהוּ. עַד עֵת בֹּא דְבָרוֹ, זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב וַיִּקְרָא אֶת יוֹסֵף. כָּתוּב כָּאן וַיִּקְרָא אֶת יוֹסֵף, וְכָתוּב שָׁם וַיִּקְרָא אֶל מֹשֶׁה. וַיְגַלַּח וַיְחַלֵּף שִׂמְלֹתָיו, בִּשְׁבִיל כְּבוֹד הַמֶּלֶךְ, וְהִנֵּה פֵּרְשׁוּהָ.<\/div>\n

\nGenesis 37:24<\/a>
\n“וַיִּקָּחֻהוּ–וַיַּשְׁלִכוּ אֹתוֹ, הַבֹּרָה; וְהַבּוֹר רֵק, אֵין בּוֹ מָיִם”
\n“and they took him, and cast him into the pit–and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.”<\/p>\n

Joseph<\/a>’s brothers threw him into a pit, then they pulled him out and sold him to Ishmaelite merchants. He was then sold to Potiphar, an Egyptian official, to serve in his house.<\/p>\n

The wife of Potiphar tried to seduce him but he was able to restrict and run away from her. He was falsely accused and sent to prison. The Zohar reveals that because of his restriction from having sex with Potiphar’s wife he was called a Tzadik, not before that.<\/p>\n

Joseph<\/a>’s life was a process of elevation from a deep pit to becoming a chariot<\/a> for the Sefira of Yessod<\/a>.<\/p>\n

King David in Psalms revealed that Joseph<\/a> was tested to build him to be a Tzadik and a channel of Yessod<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Psalms 105:19<\/a>, 20
\n“עַד-עֵת בֹּא-דְבָרוֹ– אִמְרַת יְהוָה צְרָפָתְהוּ”
\n“Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of YHVH<\/a> tested him.”
\n“שָׁלַח מֶלֶךְ, וַיַתִּירֵהוּ; מֹשֵׁל עַמִּים, וַיְפַתְּחֵהוּ”
\n“A king was sent and released him, The ruler of peoples, was set him free.”<\/p>\n

Genesis 41:14<\/a>
\n“וַיִּשְׁלַח פַּרְעֹה וַיִּקְרָא אֶת-יוֹסֵף, וַיְרִיצֻהוּ מִן-הַבּוֹר; וַיְגַלַּח וַיְחַלֵּף שִׂמְלֹתָיו, וַיָּבֹא אֶל-פַּרְעֹה”
\n“Then Pharaoh sent and called for Joseph<\/a>, and they hurriedly brought him out of the dungeon; and when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came to Pharaoh.”<\/p>\n

Even though Reuven was the first child born to Jacob from Leah, Joseph<\/a> is considered to be the firstborn that continued the spiritual line of Jacob. This is the reason why in his dream his brothers were bowing to him.
\nJoseph<\/a> was a young but very strong person. He chose not to fight his brothers when they threw him into the pit. As Jacob’s firstborn he had closer connection to his father and the Light of the central column. Joseph<\/a> knew that all the challenges in his life were just to lead him to greater ability to channel Light and he submitted himself to the process.<\/p>\n

The pit in the verse above was described as empty of water and the Zohar reveals that it was full snakes and scorpions. Joseph<\/a> knew that no creature could hurt him unless God permitted it. Only humans have free choice and can go against nature. Joseph<\/a> reflected the Light of the Central column and was protected from all harms.<\/p>\n

Reading the sacred text of Torah and Zohar related to Joseph<\/a> connects us to his spiritual level and gives us a path to righteousness and protection.<\/p>\n
