68. עַד מְקוֹם שְׁכֶם עַד אֵלוֹן מוֹרֶה, מִצַּד זֶה [ד”א ל”ג שֶׁלְּמַטָּה] לְצַד זֶה כָּרָאוּי. וְהַכְּנַעֲנִי אָז בָּאָרֶץ, הֲרֵי נִתְבָּאֵר שֶׁעַד כָּעֵת שׁוֹלֵט הַנָּחָשׁ הָרָע שֶׁהִתְקַלֵּל וְהֵבִיא קְלָלוֹת עַל הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁכָּתוּב (בראשית ט) אָרוּר כְּנָעַן עֶבֶד עֲבָדִים יִהְיֶה לְאֶחָיו, וְכָתוּב (שם ג) אָרוּר אַתָּה מִכָּל הַבְּהֵמָה וגו’. וְשָׁם הִתְקָרֵב אַבְרָהָם לַקָּדוֹשׁ-בָּרוּךְ-הוּא. מַה כָּתוּב? וַיֵּרָא ה’ אֶל אַבְרָם. כָּאן הִתְגַּלָּה לוֹ מַה שֶּׁלֹּא הָיָה יוֹדֵעַ אוֹתוֹ הַכֹּחַ הֶעָמֹק שֶׁשּׁוֹלֵט עַל הָאָרֶץ. וּמִשּׁוּם כָּךְ וַיֵּרָא, מַה שֶּׁהָיָה מְכֻסֶּה מִמֶּנּוּ.
\n69. וְאָז וַיִּבֶן שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ לַה’ הַנִּרְאֶה אֵלָיו. כֵּיוָן שֶׁאָמַר לַה’, מַה זֶּה הַנִּרְאֶה אֵלָיו? אֶלָּא כָּאן הִתְגַּלְּתָה לוֹ אוֹתָהּ הַדַּרְגָּה שֶׁשּׁוֹלֶטֶת עַל הָאָרֶץ, וְנִכְנַס בָּהּ וְהִתְקַיֵּם בָּהּ.
\n70. וַיַּעְתֵּק מִשָּׁם הָהָרָה. מִשָּׁם יָדַע הַר ה’ וְכָל הַדְּרָגוֹת הַנְּטוּעוֹת בַּמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה. וַיֵּט אָהֳלֹה, כָּתוּב בְּהֵ”א. פָּרַשׂ פְּרִישָׂה וְקִבֵּל מַלְכוּת שָׁמַיִם בְּכָל הַדְּרָגוֹת שֶׁאֲחוּזוֹת בּוֹ, וְאָז יָדַע שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שׁוֹלֵט עַל הַכֹּל, וְאָז בָּנָה מִזְבֵּחַ.<\/div>\n

\nGenesis 12:6<\/a>
\n“וַיַּעֲבֹר אַבְרָם, בָּאָרֶץ, עַד מְקוֹם שְׁכֶם, עַד אֵלוֹן מוֹרֶה; וְהַכְּנַעֲנִי, אָז בָּאָרֶץ”
\n“Abram passed through the land as far as the site of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. Now the Canaanite was then in the land.”
\nThe word ‘שכם’, which is a name of a place Shechem is also the Hebrew word for ‘shoulders’. The head is above the shoulders. Rabbi Ashlag explains that “עד מקום שכם” represents the connection of the upper three Sefirot to the lower seven, especially to Chessed<\/a>, which is the level of Abraham.
\nAbraham connected himself as the Right column<\/a> to Shechem that is Left column<\/a> ‘to the oak of Moreh’, which is the aspect of the Central column. This state opened the channel for God to reveal himself to Abraham with his ‘goodness’ (see above #67).
\nThe Zohar reveals that the Torah mentions ‘the Canaanite was then in the land’ to tell us that before Abraham came to the land the Right and Left columns were separated and the Klipa<\/a> of Canaan could control the land.
\nGenesis 9:25<\/a>
\n“וַיֹּאמֶר, אָרוּר כְּנָעַן: עֶבֶד עֲבָדִים, יִהְיֶה לְאֶחָיו”
\n“So he said, “Cursed be Canaan; A servant of servants He shall be to his brothers.”
\nCanaan’s father, Ham, corrupted his father’s ability to have a fourth child. For that Noah cursed the fourth son of Canaan to serve those who are greater than him. Now that Abraham came to the land Canaan lost his control over the land.

\nGenesis 12:7<\/a>
\n“וַיֵּרָא יְהוָה, אֶל-אַבְרָם, וַיֹּאמֶר, לְזַרְעֲךָ אֶתֵּן אֶת-הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת; וַיִּבֶן שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ, לַיהוָה הַנִּרְאֶה אֵלָיו”
\n“YHVH<\/a> appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to YHVH<\/a> who had appeared to him.”
\nImmediately after the Torah tells us that Abraham arrived to Shechem and achieved a new spiritual level, YHVH<\/a> appeared to Abraham with a promise to give the land to his descendant.

\n“וַיַּעְתֵּק מִשָּׁם הָהָרָה, מִקֶּדֶם לְבֵית-אֵל–וַיֵּט אָהֳלֹה; בֵּית-אֵל מִיָּם, וְהָעַי מִקֶּדֶם, וַיִּבֶן-שָׁם מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָה, וַיִּקְרָא בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה”
\n“Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to YHVH<\/a> and called upon the name of YHVH<\/a>.”
\nAbraham continues his elevation process and build a second altar to establish the higher level connection.
