46. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אָמַר, זוֹ אַהֲבָה שֶׁאוֹהֶבֶת הַנְּשָׁמָה לַגּוּף. שֶׁכֵּיוָן שֶׁנִּשְׁלָם קִצּוֹ שֶׁל גּוּף, אוֹתָם הַיָּמִים שֶׁנִּגְזְרוּ עָלָיו, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר וַיִּהְיוּ חַיֵּי שָׂרָה, מַה כָּתוּב? וַיָּקָם אַבְרָהָם מֵעַל פְּנֵי מֵתוֹ וגו’. אָמַר רַב יְהוּדָה אָמַר רַב, מַה כָּתוּב בַּפָּסוּק קֹדֶם זֶה? שֶׁכָּתוּב וַתָּמָת שָׂרָה בְּקִרְיַת אַרְבַּע הִיא חֶבְרוֹן בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן.

\n“וַיִּהְיוּ חַיֵּי שָׂרָה, מֵאָה שָׁנָה וְעֶשְׂרִים שָׁנָה וְשֶׁבַע שָׁנִים–שְׁנֵי, חַיֵּי שָׂרָה”
\n“Now Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.”
\nRabbi Yehuda says that ‘Now Sarah lived…’ is the count of years decreed for the body to live in this world.
\nGenesis 23:3<\/a>
\n“וַיָּקָם, אַבְרָהָם, מֵעַל, פְּנֵי מֵתוֹ; וַיְדַבֵּר אֶל-בְּנֵי-חֵת, לֵאמֹר.”
\n“Then Abraham rose from before his dead, and spoke to the sons of Heth, saying,”
\n’Abraham rose from before the dead’ is related to the body. In the prior verse, Genesis 23:2<\/a> we read;
\n“וַתָּמָת שָׂרָה, בְּקִרְיַת אַרְבַּע הִוא חֶבְרוֹן–בְּאֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן; וַיָּבֹא, אַבְרָהָם, לִסְפֹּד לְשָׂרָה, וְלִבְכֹּתָהּ”
\n“And Sarah died at Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.”

\nRabbi Yitzchak quotes Rabbi Yochanan, ‘The Holy One Blessed Be He, created man and put in him four separate elements’. Rabbi Yehuda says ‘connected in the body’ and Rabbi Yitzchak says ‘separated in the body’ and go back to its original state when the soul leaves the body.
\nRabbi Yehuda explains himself saying; ‘and Sarah died’ is the aspect of the body, ‘at Kiryat-Arba’ (city of four), is the four elements and ‘is Hebron’ implies ‘connected’ to the body during his life.
\nThe word Hebron, ‘חברון’ has the root ‘חבר’ that means ‘connection’. ‘in the land of Canaan’ means ‘connected’ in this world that the soul comes to connect for a short time.
\nThe four elements are Fire, Air, Water and Earth that God used to create the body of Adam. According to Rabbi Yitzchak the elements go back to their source when the soul leaves the body. Rabbi Yehuda says ‘connected’ to mean that their purpose is to support the soul in its work in this world.
\nThe four elements are expressed in all aspects of our lives. The Zodiac is divided into the four types, while each one of us has a dominated element that is related to his spiritual work in this world.
\nThe planets in our solar system are also made from the four elements. The Sun is a planet of fire,Uranus and Neptune are water, Jupiter and Saturn are gas, Mercury, Venus and Mars are terrestrial (earth) planets.
\nOur Earth has all four elements when we consider the core as fire.
\nBoth Rabbis are correct and we follow Rabbi Yehuda that teaches us to use the body for the purpose of improving the state of the soul because the time to live in this world is very short.
