48. פָּתַח רַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר וְאָמַר, (שם פח) ה’ אֱלֹהֵי יְשׁוּעָתִי יוֹם צָעַקְתִּי בַלַּיְלָה נֶגְדֶּךָ. בֹּא רְאֵה, דָּוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ הָיָה קָם בַּחֲצוֹת הַלַּיְלָה וּמִשְׁתַּדֵּל בַּתּוֹרָה בְּשִׁירִים וְתִשְׁבָּחוֹת לְשִׂמְחַת הַמֶּלֶךְ וְהַגְּבִירָה, וְזוֹ הָיְתָה שִׂמְחַת הָאֱמוּנָה בָּאָרֶץ, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁזֶּהוּ הַשֶּׁבַח שֶׁל הָאֱמוּנָה שֶׁנִּרְאֶה בָאָרֶץ.

\nWhen we rise to study at midnight, the angels on the upper levels open with joy and praises to the Holy One Blessed Be He. They join those who got up to study and praise God, creating unification of the upper and lower levels.
