Tikkun 21 – 160<\/p>\n

(This commentary is related to the subject begun in a previous Zohar section, as discussed in Daily Zohar #418.)<\/p>\n

Deuteronomy 16:16<\/a>
\n“שָׁלוֹשׁ פְּעָמִים בַּשָּׁנָה יֵרָאֶה כָל-זְכוּרְךָ אֶת-פְּנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בַּמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר יִבְחָר–בְּחַג הַמַּצּוֹת וּבְחַג הַשָּׁבֻעוֹת, וּבְחַג הַסֻּכּוֹת; וְלֹא יֵרָאֶה אֶת-פְּנֵי יְהוָה, רֵיקָם”
\n“Three times in a year every one of your males shall appear before the face of YHVH<\/a> your God in the place which He will choose — in the event of Matzos, and in the event of Shavuot, and in the event of Sukkoth; and they shall not appear before YHVH<\/a> empty.”<\/p>\n

There are three holidays when we are required to ‘see the face’ of YHVH<\/a>. Those holidays are Pesach (Passover), Shavuot and Sukkot. When the Holy Temple still stood, the people could come and see the glory of God and fulfill the simple aspect of the precepts. Nowadays, we should follow the restriction to see the light.<\/p>\n

The names of the holidays describe the type of restriction to be done during that event. During Pesach, we restrict the type of food we intake for seven days and eat Matzah. Before Shavuot, we must count 49 days to the holiday; and three days prior to its arrival, we have extra restrictions on relations. And during Sukkoth, we need to dwell in the Sukkah.<\/p>\n

These events give us the special opportunity to connect to ‘the face’ of YHVH<\/a>, which in Hebrew also means ‘inner.’ The inner light is a gift from the light of YHVH<\/a>. During Passover, we receive the gift of the light of redemption, which is the ability to break out of bondage. On Shavuot, we receive the gift of the Torah that is our tool to connect to the supernal<\/a> levels. And on Sukkoth, we receive the gift of the light of Chassadim<\/a> that sustains us for the whole year.<\/p>\n

The Torah instructs us to come to ‘see’ YHVH<\/a> but not ‘empty’.
\nDeuteronomy 16:17<\/a> “ אִישׁ, כְּמַתְּנַת יָדוֹ, כְּבִרְכַּת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, אֲשֶׁר נָתַן-לָךְ.”
\n“Every man shall give in a measure like the gift in his hand, according to the blessing of the YHVH<\/a>, your God which He has given you.”<\/p>\n

The Zohar refers to the gifts as happiness and joy for what we have. Without happiness we distance ourselves from the Light and are thus considered ‘flawed’.<\/p>\n

It is said in Leviticus 21:18<\/a> “ כִּי כָל-אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר-בּוֹ מוּם, לֹא יִקְרָב” “For every man that has a blemish, he shall not approach.”<\/p>\n

Everything we have comes as a gift from the Light. When we give back with happiness, we create affinity with the same light that was originally given to us secretly.<\/p>\n

Every act of restriction made during the holidays enables a better connection with the increased light that is revealed on that particular event.<\/p>\n

Giving back from the original gift creates returning light, which is the Light of Chassadim<\/a> that we benefit from.<\/p>\n

As quoted in the Zohar, the verse in Proverb 21:14<\/a> “מַתָּן בַּסֵּתֶר, יִכְפֶּה-אָף” “A gift in secret pacifies anger”.<\/p>\n

Giving in secret is the way of the light, and it puts the giver on a higher level. When you give to support a good cause that reveals light in the world, don’t expect anything in return. Whatever gifts we have were given to us for the purpose of sharing and we should share it like the light–secretly.<\/p>\n

It is okay to give donations in the name of people that have passed away. Receiving public honor or a similar reward is the most limited form of reward. Better to have more light in your ‘mitzvah bank’ account that can manifest when and where you really need it. It is better than a nice certificate or a plaque on the wall.<\/p>\n

Give and share ONLY with happiness, knowing that whatever you have, you received as a gift and now it is your opportunity to share it.<\/p>\n

To understand this spiritual rule, we go to 1 Chronicles 29 and study it from King David. He prepared everything for his son Solomon to build the first Holy Temple. He gathered the gold, silver and other precious materials from the people.
\n1 Chronicle 29:9<\/a>
\n“וַיִּשְׂמְחוּ הָעָם, עַל-הִתְנַדְּבָם, כִּי בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם, הִתְנַדְּבוּ לַיהוָה; וְגַם דָּוִיד הַמֶּלֶךְ, שָׂמַח שִׂמְחָה גְדוֹלָה”
\n“Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with a whole heart they offered willingly to YHVH<\/a>; and David the king also rejoiced with great joy”<\/p>\n

Immediately after 29: 10 King David ‘Blessed YHVH<\/a>’, which means, made a spiritual action and connected the people to the Tree of Life<\/a> in 29:11<\/a>
\n“לְךָ יְהוָה הַגְּדֻלָּה וְהַגְּבוּרָה וְהַתִּפְאֶרֶת, וְהַנֵּצַח וְהַהוֹד, כִּי-כֹל, בַּשָּׁמַיִם וּבָאָרֶץ: לְךָ יְהוָה הַמַּמְלָכָה, וְהַמִּתְנַשֵּׂא לְכֹל לְרֹאשׁ”
\n“to you YHVH<\/a>, is the greatness (Chessed<\/a>), and the power (Gevurah<\/a>) , and the glory (Tiferet<\/a>) , and the victory (Netzach<\/a>), and the majesty (Hod<\/a>); for all (Yessod<\/a>) that is in the heaven (Supernal<\/a>) and in the earth (lowers) is yours; For YHVH<\/a> is the kingdom (Malchut<\/a>), and all that exalted (elevating Malchut<\/a>) as head above all (upper three Sefirot)”<\/p>\n

And it continues through 29:14<\/a>
\n“ וְכִי מִי אֲנִי, וּמִי עַמִּי, כִּי-נַעְצֹר כֹּחַ, לְהִתְנַדֵּב כָּזֹאת: כִּי-מִמְּךָ הַכֹּל, וּמִיָּדְךָ נָתַנּוּ לָךְ”
\n“But who am I, and what are my people, to stop the force (the given light) to offer so willingly after this sort (Malchut<\/a>)? FOR ALL THINGS COME OF YOU, AND FROM YOUR HAND WE HAVE GIVEN TO YOU”<\/p>\n

When you share your gifts, you let the force of the Light continue through you and keep you connected to the Tree of Life<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We should engrave this study in our mind
\nכִּי-מִמְּךָ הַכֹּל, וּמִיָּדְךָ נָתַנּוּ לָך
\nFOR ALL THINGS COME OF YOU, AND FROM YOUR HAND, WE HAVE GIVEN TO YOU.
