63. עֶרֶב זֶה – תְּפִלַּת עַרְבִית. וּמִשּׁוּם שֶׁבָּעֶרֶב הַזֶּה מִתְעָרֵב הַצַּד הָאַחֵר שֶׁמַּחֲשִׁיךְ אֶת אוֹרוֹ וְשׁוֹלֵט בַּלַּיְלָה, שָׂמוּ לוֹ רְשׁוּת, וְאֵין לוֹ זְמַן קָבוּעַ. אֵמוּרִים וּפְרָדִים מִתְאַכְּלִים בַּזְּמַן הַזֶּה, וּמִכָּאן נִזּוֹנִים כַּמָּה קְבוּצוֹת שֶׁל שָׂרִים שֶׁיּוֹצְאִים וְשׁוֹלְטִים בַּלַּיְלָה.

\nThe evening prayer is called ’ערבית’, ‘Arvit’. The word has the letters ערב that means ‘evening’ and also means ‘mix’. The evening time is when the other side<\/a> get mixed with the night to have control. This prayer doesn’t have a specific time and it can be done anytime during the night.
\nLeftovers from sacrifices that were done in the Holy Temple were left on the altar to burn during the night. The forces of the negative-side got nourished from these leftovers.

\nThe Zohar explains that the other-side<\/a> didn’t have control over the Holy Land. The smoke from the burning of the sacrifices during the day was ascending straight up but at night it was bent and turned to the north side, Gevurah<\/a>, where there is a small opening for the negative forces to come out. Because the smoke came to that opening and nourish them, they didn’t go out to have control over the world.
