68. וּבְשָׁעָה שֶׁמִּתְאַכְּלִים אֵמוּרִים וּפְדָרִים, אוֹתוֹ עָשָׁן הָיָה מַרְוֶה אוֹתָם וְזָן אוֹתָם. כְּפִי כְבוֹדָם כָּךְ מְזוֹנָם מַה שֶּׁרָאוּי לָהֶם. וּבָזֶה לֹא יָצְאוּ וְלֹא מְשׁוֹטְטִים בָּאָרֶץ הַקְּדוֹשָׁה.
\n69. עֶרֶב, כְּמוֹ שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (שמות יב) וְגַם עֵרֶב רַב עָלָה אִתָּם. שֶׁכָּל אוֹתָן קְבוּצוֹת שָׂרִים מִתְעָרְבִים בְּשִׁלְטוֹן הַלַּיְלָה, וְלָכֵן לֹא שָׂמוּ אֶת תְּפִלַּת עַרְבִית חוֹבָה, שֶׁאֵין מִי שֶׁיָּכוֹל לְתַקְּנָהּ כְּמוֹ יַעֲקֹב, שֶׁהוּא הָיָה בַּעַל (מְטַהֵר) הַמִּשְׁכָּן וּמְתַקֵּן אוֹתוֹ כָּרָאוּי.
\n70. וְאַף עַל גַּב שֶׁהִיא רְשׁוּת, תְּפִלָּה זוֹ הִיא כְּדֵי לְהָגֵן עָלֵינוּ מִתּוֹךְ פַּחַד בַּלֵּילוֹת, מִתּוֹךְ פַּחַד שֶׁל כַּמָּה צְדָדִים שֶׁל הַגֵּיהִנֹּם, שֶׁהֲרֵי בְּאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה טוֹרְדִים אֶת הָרְשָׁעִים בַּגֵּיהִנֹּם עַל כָּל אֶחָד שְׁנַיִם מֵאֲשֶׁר בַּיּוֹם. וְלָכֵן מַקְדִּימִים יִשְׂרָאֵל לוֹמַר “וְהוּא רַחוּם”, שֶׁהוּא מִשּׁוּם פַּחַד הַגֵּיהִנֹּם. וְלֹא דִין אַחֵר אָסוּר לְעוֹרְרוֹ, שֶׁנִּרְאֶה שֶׁהֲרֵי אֵין לוֹ רְשׁוּת לְשַׁבָּת לְהַעֲבִיר אֶת הַדִּין מֵהָעוֹלָם.<\/div>\n

\nEvening, ‘ערב’, pronounced ‘Erev’ as in ‘ערב רב’, ‘Erev Rav’, which is the mix multitude.
\nExodus 12:38<\/a>
\n“וְגַם עֵרֶב רַב עָלָה אִתָּם וְצֹאן וּבָקָר מִקְנֶה כָּבֵד מְאֹד”
\n“A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.”
\nThe Zohar explains that this verse reveals the aspect of negative entities that get mixed with the night that is the time controlled by the other side<\/a>. The evening prayer is not mandatory because only Jacob, the central column, can make the proper correction to Malchut<\/a>.

\nEven though the evening prayer is not mandatory, it was made by the sages to provide us with protection from the negative forces of the night. During the night, the judgments that can be inflicted b the other side<\/a> is doubled that what the can do during the night because they have the support of the absence of light.
\nWe start the evening prayer with (Psalms 78:38<\/a>)
\n“וְהוּא רַחוּם יְכַפֵּר עָו‍ֹן וְלֹא יַשְׁחִית וְהִרְבָּה לְהָשִׁיב אַפּוֹ וְלֹא יָעִיר כָּל חֲמָתוֹ”
\n“But He, being compassionate, forgive their iniquity and did not destroy them; And often He restrained His anger And did not arouse all His wrath.”
\nThis verse protects us from three angels of the other side<\/a> that control hell. Their names are destruction, anger and wrath.
