59. אָמַר רַבִּי חִיָּיא, לֹא רָצָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שֶׁדָּבָר זֶה יֵעָשֶׂה עַל יָדֵינוּ. אָמַר רַבִּי יוֹסֵי, אוּלַי נִגְזַר דִּין עַל אוֹתוֹ אִישׁ, וְרָצָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא לְהַזְמִין לְפָנָיו אֶת זֶה כְּדֵי לְהַצִּילוֹ. בְּעוֹד שֶׁהָלְכוּ, הִתְעַיֵּף אוֹתוֹ אִישׁ בַּדֶּרֶךְ. אָמַר לוֹ חֲבֵרוֹ: וְלֹא אָמַרְתִּי לְךָ שֶׁלֹּא תִתֵּן לֶחֶם לָאַחֵר? אָמַר רַבִּי חִיָּיא לְרַבִּי יוֹסֵי, הֲרֵי מָזוֹן עִמָּנוּ, נִתֵּן לוֹ לֶאֱכֹל. אָמַר רַבִּי יוֹסֵי, הֲתִרְצֶה לְהוֹצִיא מִמֶּנּוּ אֶת הַזְּכוּת? נֵלֵךְ וְנִרְאֶה, שֶׁהֲרֵי בְּוַדַּאי בְּצוּרַת פָּנָיו שֶׁל זֶה, הַדְּפוּס שֶׁל הַמָּוֶת נֶאֱחָז, וְרָצָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא לְזַמֵּן זְכוּתוֹ כְּדֵי לְהַצִּילוֹ.
\n60. בֵּין כָּךְ יָשַׁב אוֹתוֹ הָאִישׁ וְיָשַׁן תַּחַת אִילָן אֶחָד, וַחֲבֵרוֹ הִתְרַחֵק מִמֶּנּוּ וְיָשַׁב בְּדֶרֶךְ אַחֶרֶת. אָמַר רַבִּי יוֹסֵי לְרַבִּי חִיָּיא, כָּעֵת נֵשֵׁב וְנִרְאֶה, שֶׁוַּדַּאי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא רוֹצֶה לְהַרְחִישׁ לוֹ נֵס. קָמוּ וְחִכּוּ. בֵּין כָּךְ רָאוּ צוּרָה אַחַת שֶׁל שַׁלְהָבוֹת עוֹמֶדֶת לְפָנָיו. אָמַר רַבִּי חִיָּיא, אוֹי עַל אוֹתוֹ הָאִישׁ, שֶׁעַכְשָׁו יָמוּת. אָמַר רַבִּי יוֹסֵי, אַשְׁרֵי אוֹתוֹ הָאִישׁ, שֶׁהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא יַרְחִישׁ לוֹ נֵס. בֵּין כָּךְ יָרַד מֵאִילָן אֶחָד נָחָשׁ אֶחָד וְרָצָה לְהָרְגוֹ. קָמָה אוֹתָהּ צוּרָה עָלָיו וַהֲרָגַתּוּ. סוֹבְבָה הַצּוּרָה בְּרֹאשָׁהּ, וְהָלְכָה לָהּ.<\/div>\n

\nRabbi Chiya said that the way it looks, God didn’t want them to interfere with what’s going on. Rabbi Yosei said; there could have been a judgment on that person and the Holy One Blessed Be He brought the poor man to him so he can save him and have merits.
\nThey continued on their way and saw that the good man got tired. His friend scolded him; didn’t I tell you not to give your food to another?
\nRabbi Chiya offered Rabbi Yosei to share their food with that man, but Rabbi Yosei said that they shouldn’t take away the merit from him. They saw the shade of death on his face and waited to see how the Holy One Blessed be He uses his merits to save him.

\nThe good man sat and slept under a tree while his friends move on to a different path. The two rabbis sat and expected to see the miracle that the Holy One would make for this man.
\nA little later they saw a viper surrounded with flames standing in front of that person. Rabbi Chiya expressed worries that this man may die soon, but Rabbi Yosei said that this man must be lucky because he earned merits to be saved by God. Then a snake<\/a> comes down from the tree wishing to kill the good man in his sleep, but the viper with flames killed that snake<\/a> and went away.
\nLesson;
\nGod brings on our path opportunities to correct ourselves and earn merits that can be used in this world and the world to come. The good man in the story saved a person’s life and his life was saved. We should be on a lookout for people in need of help of our support. We will then find plenty of opportunities to do good for others. As we learned in the previous study, we are the hands of God, and when we do his will, we get paid. Every good thing we do counts. Whatever we give and share, comes back to us in ways we need the most. We may give from our energy, money, and trade it with Light. After we give we may see that temporary, we have less money, but the money we offer transforms into Light. It is reserved for us and used to reward us in what we need the most. We experience miracles that we don’t see in our eyes. The story above tells us about a miracle that happened when the person was sleeping. We are saved from accidents, bad health, and have protected sustenance. Never miss an opportunity to do good; it’s an investment for life.
