\nRabbi Yehuda quotes these verses and asks Rabbi Chiya to explain his previous words that the Rephaim were weak.
\nJob 26:5<\/a>
\n“הָרְפָאִים יְחוֹלָלוּ מִתַּחַת מַיִם וְשֹׁכְנֵיהֶם.”
\n“”The Rephaim tremble Under the waters and their inhabitants.”
\nDeuteronomy 2:11<\/a>
\n“רְפָאִים יֵחָשְׁבוּ אַף הֵם כָּעֲנָקִים וְהַמֹּאָבִים יִקְרְאוּ לָהֶם אֵמִים.”
\n“Like the Anakim, they are also regarded as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emim.”
\nRabbi Chiya explains that the Anakim were born to a mix of Angels and human women. The Rephaim were born to the Anakim. They lived a long life but since they were a half angel and half human, the human part became weak and died. They couldn’t leave the world and their spirit stayed in this world. When they gave up on life, they took special herbs that cause them to die. The name Rephaim was given to them because they had a weak desire to live after their body died. Some of them drown themselves in the ocean as implied in Job 26:5<\/a> above. The word ‘יְחוֹלָלוּ’ came from ‘חול’, which means ‘unholy’. They removed the holy aspect of the angel part in them and then they could die.

\nRabbi Shimon says that if the Israelites<\/a> were to enter the Holy Land right after the evil speech spoken by the ten spies, the world would have collapsed immediately. The master of Evil Speech is the Snake<\/a>. Because he put impurity into Eve and cause death to the world, God doesn’t forgive evil speech. In the case of the spies, God decreed death on the entire generation, age 20 years and older.
\nPsalms 12:5<\/a> “אֲשֶׁר אָמְרוּ לִלְשֹׁנֵנוּ נַגְבִּיר שְׂפָתֵינוּ אִתָּנוּ מִי אָדוֹן לָנוּ.” “Who has said, “With our tongue, we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?””
\nThe other-side<\/a> is far from God and those who connect to it think that they can control the world with their lies.
\nLesson;
\nThe word Rephaim in Hebrew רפאים also means ‘Ghosts’. The name was ‘borrowed’ from the state of the first Rephaim after their body died. They were locked in this world until they chose to kill themselves in the ocean or using special herbs with the energy of death. The Rephaim stayed in this world with high spiritual density. They could be seen by people with spiritual sensitivity.
\nThe presence of ghosts can be known when we see objects move without ‘human’ control. Some people, mostly women during their monthly cycle, may feel these kinds of ghosts touching them during sleep. When the soul that is Light, leaves the body the ghost has easier access to touch the body and ‘suck’ some energy. For that reason, it is important that before going to sleep to read the bedtime Shema<\/a> prayers or at least Ana B’Choach and Shema Israel<\/a> (minimum first paragraph). If one feels disturbed at night, they should get clean physically and spiritually before going to sleep. Zohar reading\/scanning adds additional protection.

\nRabbi Shimon teaches us that God doesn’t forgive evil speech. Our mouth has a connection to life and death. The world was created and given life by the word of God. The Snake<\/a> corrupted the force of Life and brought mortality to the world. That was against God and the purpose of creation.
\nThe Land of Israel<\/a> is the middle point of Creation and represents the truth of God as it’s the connection to the center column<\/a> of the Tree of Life<\/a>. Bringing in the aspect of death created by the evil speech of the spies would have conflict the root of Creation and cause it to collapse.
\nWhen a person speaks lies, he connects himself to the aspect of death. The Israelites<\/a> were at the borders of the Promised Land and because the ten spies follow the ways of the Snake<\/a>, they caused death to the entire generation of the Israelites<\/a> that left Egypt.
\nWe must tell the truth to have a strong connection to the Tree of Life<\/a>. We may hide the truth when it could hurt others, or when we don’t have certainty with the facts, but we never lie because it causes us to fall down and experience death aspects in our lives, sooner or later.
\nIt’s our responsibility to follow leaders that speak the truth. If they lie, we abandon them because their lie would lead us away from the Tree of Life<\/a> to the Tree of death.
\nCorrecting evil speech is difficult and the first step is to commit to avoiding it. Use your words to build others and good causes to repair and bring greater ‘Life’ into your soul.
