From the text that follows I gather that two or more of the Zohar rabbis made a spiritual elevation. They connected to a great light where that was so high that they couldn’t communicate with each other. They came out of that level and say to each other; ‘Since we saw great visions and we are still here then even if we die now, we will certainly merit the world to come’.
They sat down and fell asleep. Then an ‘appointed’ one came to wake them up, telling them to go outside into the field, which is a lower level. They went out and saw the words of the Torah.
Numbers 14:35
“אֲנִי יְהוָה דִּבַּרְתִּי אִם לֹא זֹאת אֶעֱשֶׂה לְכָל הָעֵדָה הָרָעָה הַזֹּאת הַנּוֹעָדִים עָלָי בַּמִּדְבָּר הַזֶּה יִתַּמּוּ וְשָׁם יָמֻתוּ.”
“’I, YHVH, have spoken, surely this I will do to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. He asked them about what they heard in the higher levels. They answered him that they heard a voice saying; ‘’He who interrupts would be interrupted. He who makes it short would be shortened. He who makes it short would have it longer.” He asked them if they understood it and they answered; no. He told them about the great eagle that they saw and the child that picks up herbs. The ‘Eagle’ was Rabbi Ilai that came with his son to this place. They saw a cave and went into it and because they couldn’t take on the darkness, they died.

Lesson;
The second paragraph would be explained in the next Zohar study of Shelach Lecha.
The Rabbis of the Zohar had pure souls and on a high spiritual level. They could elevate themselves through the spiritual levels and see beyond the corporeal world. They had the support of the ‘appointed’, which is a spiritual entity ‘appointed’ for their protection and escort them in their spiritual travels.
On higher levels, they couldn’t communicate with each other because it was a very pure and fine level. When they, meaning their soul, moved down levels they could communicate but had to fall asleep so the ‘appointed’ one would properly guide them down. In our daily prayers, we use the Kaddish as a ‘bridge’ that allows us to move from one spiritual world to the other. There is a level of Malchut in all worlds (Atzilut, B'riah, Yetzirah, and Asiyah). In general, Malchut doesn't have a light of its own but can draw from all the levels above it. Malchut can receive the Light in a pure process of 'earning.'Malchut is an aspect of the female with a desire for the Light.The image of the sefirot below represents the lowest level of the world of Asiyah, Action, where there is an aspect of physicality, material existence.Malchut of the upper worlds manifests the levels below it.
