96. וְהַכֹּל הָיָה מִמִּדְיָן בְּכַמָּה מִינִים, וּמִשּׁוּם כָּךְ נֶעֶנְשׁוּ מִדְיָן, וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא אָמַר לְמֹשֶׁה, (במדבר לא) נְקֹם נִקְמַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאֵת הַמִּדְיָנִים. לְךָ רָאוּי וּלְךָ נָאֶה. לְמוֹאָב אֲנִי מַשְׁאִיר אוֹתָם לְאַחַר שֶׁיֵּצְאוּ מֵהֶם שְׁתֵּי מַרְגָּלִיּוֹת – הֲרֵי דָּוִד בֶּן יִשַׁי, שֶׁהוּא יִנְקֹם נִקְמוֹת מוֹאָב וְיִרְחַץ קְדֵרָה הַמְּלֵאָה טִנֹּפֶת פְּעוֹר. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב (תהלים ס) מוֹאָב סִיר רַחְצִי, בְּוַדַּאי. וְעַד שֶׁאוֹתָן שְׁתֵּי מַרְגָּלִיּוֹת לֹא יָצְאוּ, לֹא נֶעֶנְשׁוּ. כֵּיוָן שֶׁיָּצְאוּ, בָּא דָוִד וְרָחַץ הַקְּדֵרָה מֵהַטִּנֹּפֶת שֶׁלָּהֶם. וְכֻלָּם נֶעֶנְשׁוּ – מִדְיָן בִּימֵי מֹשֶׁה, וּמוֹאָב בִּימֵי דָוִד.
\n97. בֹּא וּרְאֵה, רִשְׁעֵי מִדְיָן עִם כָּל זֶה לֹא שָׁכְכוּ מִכָּל רָעוֹתֵיהֶם. אַחַר דּוֹרוֹת שֶׁרָאוּ שֶׁמֵּת יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְכָל אוֹתָם זְקֵנִים שֶׁרְאוּיִים הָיוּ לְהֵעָשׂוֹת נֵס עַל יְדֵיהֶם, אָמְרוּ: כָּעֵת הַשָּׁעָה עוֹמֶדֶת לָנוּ. מֶה עָשׂוּ? בָּאוּ לַעֲמָלֵק וְאָמְרוּ: יֵשׁ לָכֶם לִזְכֹּר מֶה עָשׂוּ לָכֶם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמֹשֶׁה רַבָּם וִיהוֹשֻׁעַ תַּלְמִידוֹ, שֶׁהִשְׁמִידוּ אֶתְכֶם מֵהָעוֹלָם. כָּעֵת הוּא זְמַן שֶׁאֵין מִי שֶׁמֵּגֵן עֲלֵיהֶם, וְאָנוּ יַחַד אִתְּכֶם, שֶׁכָּתוּב (שופטים ו) מִדְיָן וַעֲמָלֵק וּבְנֵי קֶדֶם וְגוֹ’, (שם) מִפְּנֵי מִדְיָן עָשׂוּ לָהֶם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת הַמִּנְהָרוֹת וְגוֹ’. לֹא הָיָה בָּעוֹלָם מִי שֶׁיַּעֲשֶׂה רָע בַּכֹּל כְּמוֹ מִדְיָן. וְאִם תֹּאמַר עֲמָלֵק – בִּגְלַל קִנְאַת בְּרִית שֶׁהִתְקָרְבוּ לַבְּרִית, וְעַל זֶה מְקַנֵּא הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא קִנְאַת עוֹלָמִים שֶׁלֹּא נִשְׁכַּחַת. אָמְרוּ, וַדַּאי כָּךְ זֶה, וְאֵין כָּאן סָפֵק בָּעוֹלָם.<\/div>\n

\nNumbers 31:2<\/a>
\n“נְקֹם, נִקְמַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, מֵאֵת, הַמִּדְיָנִים; אַחַר, תֵּאָסֵף אֶל-עַמֶּיךָ”
\n‘Avenge the children of Israel<\/a> of the Midianites; afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.’”
\nBefore Moses leves the world, God gave him the opportunity to punish the Midianites for what they did to the Israelites<\/a>. It was Moses’s task because the Midianites wanted to hurt him. Moab was left without punishment at this time by Moses because God waited until Naomi and Ruth left them so Ruth can bring to the world the seed of Mashiach, King David. For that reason, Moab was punished at the time of King David.
\nPsalms 60:10<\/a>
\n“מוֹאָב, סִיר רַחְצִי–עַל-אֱדוֹם, אַשְׁלִיךְ נַעֲלִי עָלַי, פְּלֶשֶׁת הִתְרוֹעָעִי”
\n“Moab is my washpot; upon Edom do I cast my shoe; Philistia, cry aloud because of me!”
\nAbout four hundred years later King David washed the Israelites<\/a>’ vessel from the impurity that Moab inflicted on them.

\nEven after many generations, the Midianites kept going after the Israelites<\/a>. When they saw that Joshua and other righteous leaders passed away, they believed that it’s a good time to take over the Israelites<\/a>.
\nJudges 6:3<\/a>
\n“וְהָיָה אִם זָרַע יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעָלָה מִדְיָן וַעֲמָלֵק וּבְנֵי קֶדֶם וְעָלוּ עָלָיו”
\n“And so it was, when Israel<\/a> had sown, and the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east; they came up against them;”
\nThey went to the Amalekites and other nations of the east and joined forces to attack Israel<\/a>. When the Israelites<\/a> did evil, God delivered then into the hands of the Midianites for seven years (Judges 6:1<\/a>).
