The first two letters of the word are ‘אח’ that means ‘brother’ and the letter Dalet, ד that represents the wife. Together they are one. The unification of marriage is to create continuation and when the husband dies without having children his soul is in pain. The older brother that is from the same spiritual line has the opportunity to fulfil the unification of אַחַד, bringing the אח and the ד together and create continuation for his brother. If he refuse then they go through a process that releases the widow and the brother from the needed unification for the soul of the brother..
\nThe brother that comes to marry his brother’s wife with the act of unification should have a pure consciousness to make the proper spiritual connection and link his brother’s soul to the wife. He should serve as a channel to his brother’s soul that will come into his wife and bring a child to the world.
\nThe Zohar explains that the woman is the aspect of the letter ד Dalet. When the living brother comes without pure consciousness but for the pleasure of himself, he removes the ‘י’ (letter Yod) on the top right of the letter that represent the higher consciousness. The letter Dalet then becomes ‘ר’ (Resh) that represents poorness and lack of light.
