87. וְלָכֵן הַלּוּחוֹת הָרִאשׁוֹנִים הָיוּ רְשׁוּמִים מֵהַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה, וְזֶהוּ סוֹד הַדָּבָר, שֶׁכָּתוּב (שמות לב) חָרוּת עַל הַלֻּחֹת. אַל תִּקְרֵי חָרוּת אֶלָּא חֵרוּת, חֵרוּת מַמָּשׁ, מָקוֹם שֶׁכָּל הַחֵרוּת תְּלוּיָה בּוֹ. וּבֹא רְאֵה, אֵין לְךָ דָּבָר בַּתּוֹרָה שֶׁאוֹמְרִים כָּל הַחֲבֵרִים זֶה כָּךְ וְזֶה כָּךְ, שֶׁלֹּא הוֹלֵךְ הַכֹּל לְמָקוֹם אֶחָד וּמִתְכַּנֵּס לְמַעְיָן אֶחָד.

\nDeuteronomy 5:18<\/a>
\n“אֶת-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֶל-כָּל-קְהַלְכֶם בָּהָר, מִתּוֹךְ הָאֵשׁ הֶעָנָן וְהָעֲרָפֶל–קוֹל גָּדוֹל, וְלֹא יָסָף; וַיִּכְתְּבֵם, עַל-שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת אֲבָנִים, וַיִּתְּנֵם, אֵלָי.”
\n“These words YHVH<\/a> spoke to all your assembly at the mountain from the midst of the fire, of the cloud and the thick gloom, with a great voice, and He added no more. He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.”
\nIn Deuteronomy, Moses reminds us about the receiving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. In this verse, the Shofar<\/a> is mentioned only as ‘great voice.’ In Exodus 19:19<\/a> it said, “the sound of the trumpet (Shofar<\/a>) walking and grew louder and louder.” The ‘Great Voice’ is another name for the Shofar<\/a>. The Zohar asks; where the sound of the Shofar<\/a> goes? If we answer; to Mount Sinai or Israel<\/a>, then it’s in a downward direction. The Zohar answers that the Torah came out from this voice and included all sounds as one without a defined path.

\nThe first tablets came from the same place of the sound of the Shofar<\/a>, which is Binah<\/a> that is Freedom.
\nExodus 32:16<\/a>
\n“וְהַלֻּחֹת מַעֲשֵׂה אֱלֹהִים הֵמָּה וְהַמִּכְתָּב מִכְתַּב אֱלֹהִים הוּא חָרוּת עַל הַלֻּחֹת”
\n“The tablets were God’s work, and the writing was God’s writing engraved on the tablets.”
\nThe words of the Torah given on Mount Sinai were engraved on the Tablets. The Zohar tells us to read the word ‘engraved,’ ‘חרות’ with the same letters and different Nikud<\/a> (vowels) ‘חֵרוּת’ that means ‘freedom.’ The Zohar adds that even when the friends of Rabbi Shimon reveal different opinions in their studies, all come from the same spring, meaning the same root.

\nThe Hebrew word ‘הולך’ is usually translated into English and other languages according to the context of the verse as understood by the translator. The root meaning of it is ‘walk\/move\/stream\/flow’ in a direction. The verse below describes the rivers flow into one place, the sea.
\nEcclesiastes 1:7<\/a>
\n“כָּל-הַנְּחָלִים הֹלְכִים אֶל-הַיָּם, וְהַיָּם אֵינֶנּוּ מָלֵא; אֶל-מְקוֹם, שֶׁהַנְּחָלִים הֹלְכִים–שָׁם הֵם שָׁבִים, לָלָכֶת”
\n“All the rivers flow into the sea, Yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again.”
\nIn Exodus 19:19<\/a> (above) the aspect of ‘grew stronger’ relates to the strength of the vessel. The Torah is the aspect of water that flows to Malchut<\/a> (Sea). The Torah is strong, and when we connect to it, we strengthen our vessels. If we see ‘weakness’ in the Torah, it is because of our weakness and our flawed vessels. The Torah tells this to explicitly.
\nDeuteronomy 32:47<\/a>
\n“כִּי לֹא דָבָר רֵק הוּא מִכֶּם כִּי הוּא חַיֵּיכֶם וּבַדָּבָר הַזֶּה תַּאֲרִיכוּ יָמִים עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם עֹבְרִים אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּן שָׁמָּה לְרִשְׁתָּהּ.”
\n“For it is not an empty word for you; indeed it is your life. And by this word (of Torah) you will prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”
\nMoses tells the Israelites<\/a> before they enter the Land of Israel<\/a> to strengthen their vessels with the words of the Torah to benefit from the ‘Land’ that they are about to receive.
\nLesson;
\nThe sages tell us the Torah is like water because of several reasons; water covers earth from one end to the other, and so is the Torah. Water lives forever, and the Torah is forever. Water comes from the heavens, and so is the Torah. Water purifies the body, and so is the Torah. Water comes down as drops and becomes rivers so is when we study a little every day, and we become like a spring of water with our knowledge. The Torah gives us as much as we want or able to absorb. Water brings life to a person, so the Torah brings life to those who ‘drink’ from her.
\nWater always seek lower levels so does the Torah, and we benefit from it when we lower and humble ourselves. When fish are taken out of the water they die, so are the children of Israel<\/a> that without the Torah they experience aspects of death.
