The level of pain of this process depends on the person&rsquo;s merits.<br>\nRighteous people don&rsquo;t follow the desires of their body and they may avoid this process unless they missed on something. Those who passed away on Friday afternoon skip this process because of the holiness of Shabbat.<br>\nThe process of decay is also part of the soul&rsquo;s cleansing process. On the heavenly court, the actions of the soul are broken down and every little detail is judged.<br>\nThe more we &lsquo;load&rsquo; our souls with Torah studies, the less pain we experience during death. the court process above is easier, including the cleansing time in <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Gehinnom&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Gehinnom, aka hell,&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt; is the level that God created on the second day of Creation. It is under the control of the other-side and where the wicked souls go through their &amp;#039;punishment&amp;#039; \/ Purification.The normal purification process called &amp;#039;whitening&amp;#039; in Gehinnom takes 12 months, but some wicked may get stuck in there for a longer period.The Garden of Eden is higher level, made for the righteous, and Gehinnom is for the wicked in the opposite direction below.The fire in Gehinnom burns day and night like the fire of selfish desires.When the souls get &amp;#039;whitened,&amp;#039; the impurity of their past actions remains in Gehinnom as boiling feces.
