\nJacob was righteous and was loved by God. Nevertheless, when he was alone, a spirit from the other-side<\/a> came to challenge him. <\/p>\n

\nNumbers 23:3<\/a> “וַיֵּלֶךְ שֶׁפִי” “And (Balaam) went off to a barren height.” The Zohar explains that like a Snake<\/a> that hunts alone, Balaam went alone to barren places to gather impure spirits with him so that he can do greater evil. <\/p>\n

\nDeuteronomy 21:23<\/a>
\n“לֹא תָלִין נִבְלָתוֹ עַל הָעֵץ כִּי קָבוֹר תִּקְבְּרֶנּוּ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא כִּי קִלְלַת אֱלֹהִים תָּלוּי וְלֹא תְטַמֵּא אֶת אַדְמָתְךָ אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ נַחֲלָה.”
\n“his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your land that YHVH<\/a> your God is giving you for an inheritance.”
\nThe Torah commands us to bury a person that was judged to death before nightfall because he was ‘cursed’ and would defile the land.
\nWhen the soul leaves the body, the curses that are the aspect of judgments, stay with the body. The impure spirits see the judgments as openings and ‘attack’ the body, especially at night when there the unclean spirits are free to roam.<\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nBecause of our iniquities, we carry judgments with us wherever we go. At night and alone, we are at higher risk and should avoid walking alone. In many places in the Zohar, we read about the Rabbis walking together and discuss the words of the Torah. It gives them protection because the study draws light as a protection shield from the negative entities in the environment.
\nWhen a person passes away, the family brings people to read Psalms next to the body until burial. Because of the judgment that fell on them, they cannot do it themselves from the moment of passing until the end of seven days of mourning.<\/p>\n
