76. שָׁנִינוּ, שֶׁיִּשְׂרָאֵל נִמְנְעָה מֵהֶם אַכְזָרִיּוּת מִכָּל שְׁאָר הָעַמִּים, וְלֹא יִירְאוּ מֵהֶם מַעֲשֶׂה בָּעוֹלָם. שֶׁהֲרֵי כַּמָּה בַּעֲלֵי עֵינַיִם עוֹמְדִים עַל הָאָדָם בְּאוֹתוֹ הַמַּעֲשֶׂה. אַשְׁרֵי מִי שֶׁמַּרְאֶה מַעֲשֶׂה כָּשֵׁר לְמַטָּה, שֶׁהֲרֵי בְּמַעֲשֶׂה תָּלוּי הַדָּבָר בַּכֹּל, לְעוֹרֵר דָּבָר אַחֵר.

\nThe attribute of ‘cruelty’ was avoided from the Israelites<\/a> more than any other nation. There are many ‘observers’ from heavens that watch our actions and awaken a proper reaction from above, positive or negative.<\/p>\n

\nGenesis 42:1<\/a>
\n“וַיַּרְא יַעֲקֹב כִּי יֶשׁ שֶׁבֶר בְּמִצְרָיִם וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב לְבָנָיו לָמָּה תִּתְרָאוּ.”
\n“When Jacob saw that there was grain in Egypt, Jacob said to his sons, “Why do you look at one another?”
\nRabbi Shimon tells us that this verse has a secret of wisdom. At the beginning, it says “And Jacob saw…grain in Egypt ” then it says “Why do you look at one another ”. What is the connection? <\/p>\n

\nWhen the Holy One Blessed be He wants to judge the world to go through famine, he doesn’t let the message delivered by the announcer, angels. They announce all other judgments and punishments but the decree of famine is announced by the Holy One Blessed be He. We learn that from the following verse.<\/p>\n

2 Kings 8:1<\/a>
\n“וֶאֱלִישָׁע דִּבֶּר אֶל הָאִשָּׁה אֲשֶׁר הֶחֱיָה אֶת בְּנָהּ לֵאמֹר קוּמִי וּלְכִי אתי [אַתְּ] וּבֵיתֵךְ וְגוּרִי בַּאֲשֶׁר תָּגוּרִי כִּי קָרָא יְהוָה לָרָעָב וְגַם בָּא אֶל הָאָרֶץ שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים.”
\n“Now Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise and go with your household, and sojourn wherever you can sojourn; for YHVH<\/a> has called for a famine, and it will even come on the land for seven years.””
\nAfter the announcement by the Holy One, other appointees govern the decree of famine. <\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nThe sustenance that flows to the world is controlled by the Holy One Blessed be He. Famine affects many people, righteous and wicked at the same time. For that reason, God announced it ahead of time. Because of their high spiritual connections, Tzadikim are able to ‘listen’ to the message and can mitigate the decree. They can pray and prepare the people for what is coming. <\/p>\n
