123. אָמַר לוֹ, כָּךְ אֲנִי אוֹמֵר, שֶׁאִם הוּא הָאוֹרֵחַ שֶׁלּוֹ – (כָּל אוֹתוֹ יוֹם) יָכוֹל לְהַעֲלוֹת אוֹתוֹ, וְאִם לֹא – אֵינוֹ מַעֲלֶה אוֹתוֹ. וְאִם נֹאמַר שֶׁי”ד שֶׁחָל לִהְיוֹת בְּשַׁבָּת, נִדְחֵית סְעוּדַת הַמֶּלֶךְ מִלִּפְנֵי סְעוּדַת הַפֶּסַח – שׁוֹנֶה הַפֶּסַח, שֶׁסְּעוּדַת שַׁבָּת נִדְחֵית מִכַּמָּה גְוָנִים: אֶחָד בִּשְׁבִיל מַצּוֹת וּמְרוֹרִים, שֶׁצָּרִיךְ שֶׁאָדָם יִהְיֶה תָאֵב. וְאֶחָד מִשּׁוּם פֶּסַח. וַהֲרֵי לֶחֶם אֵינוֹ נִמְצָא מִשֵּׁשׁ שָׁעוֹת וָמַעְלָה, שֶׁעֲרִיכַת הַשֻּׁלְחָן בְּלִי לֶחֶם אֵינָהּ עֲרִיכָה.
\n124. וְאִם תֹּאמַר בְּיַיִן – בְּיַיִן מֻתָּר, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהַלֵּב תָּאֵב (שֶׁגּוֹרֵר. ס”א שֶׁגּוֹבֵר). אֲבָל מִיָּמַי הִשְׁתַּדַּלְתִּי שֶׁלֹּא בִטַּלְתִּי סְעוּדַת שַׁבָּת, אֲפִלּוּ אוֹתָם יָמִים שֶׁנִּמְצָא בּוֹ. בַּיּוֹם הַזֶּה שְׂדֵה הַתַּפּוּחִים הַקְּדוֹשִׁים מִתְבָּרֵךְ, וּמִתְבָּרְכִים עֶלְיוֹנִים וְתַחְתּוֹנִים, וְהַיּוֹם הַזֶּה הוּא הַקִּשּׁוּר שֶׁל הַתּוֹרָה.
\n125. אָמַר רַבִּי אַבָּא, כָּךְ הָיָה עוֹשֶׂה רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן בִּזְמַן שֶׁעָלְתָה סְעוּדַת שַׁבָּת, עוֹרֵךְ שֻׁלְחָנוֹ וּמִשְׁתַּדֵּל בְּמַעֲשֵׂה מֶרְכָּבָה, וְהָיָה אוֹמֵר: הֲרֵי סְעוּדַת הַמֶּלֶךְ שֶׁיָּבֹא לֶאֱכֹל אֶצְלִי. מִשּׁוּם כָּךְ נִמְצֵאת שַׁבָּת עֲדִיפָה בַּכֹּל מִכָּל הַזְּמַנִּים וְהַחַגִּים, וְנִקְרֵאת קֹדֶשׁ וְלֹא מִקְרָא קֹדֶשׁ.<\/div>\n

\nRabbi Shimon says that if the holiday comes on Shabbat, the third meal can be elevated to the meal of the second day of the holiday. If the holiday is on Sunday, which starts after Shabbat, we don’t cancel the third meal.
\nWhen Passover is after Shabbat we skip the third meal because we cannot have a proper meal without bread. We are not allowed to eat bread in the afternoon before the night of the Seder. A Shabbat meal should be with bread and Birkat Hamazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nThe third meal can be done with a blessing over wine because it doesn’t take away the appetite for the meal of the holiday that comes soon after.
\nRabbi Shimon says that he never missed a meal of Shabbat, even if the holiday falls on the same day. He explains that Malchut<\/a> is blessed on this day that connects us to the Torah. Every blessing we do on Shabbat connects us to the Holiness of the day. <\/p>\n

\nRabbi Aba tells us that Rabbi Shimon was setting the table for the third meal and study the deeper secrets of the Torah. He was declaring “this is the meal for the King that would come to eat with me”. Because of that, Shabbat is considered to be Holy and above all holidays.<\/p>\n
