72. רַבִּי יִצְחָק אָמַר, כְּשֶׁהָיוּ מַגִּיעִים לְאוֹתָם עֲנָקִים, הָיוּ שָׂמִים אוֹתוֹ מַטֶּה שֶׁל מֹשֶׁה לִפְנֵיהֶם, וְנִצְּלוּ. וּמִנַּיִן לָנוּ שֶׁאוֹתוֹ מַטֶּה נָתַן לָהֶם? זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם עֲלוּ זֶה בַּנֶּגֶב. כָּתוּב כָּאן עֲלוּ זֶה, וְכָתוּב שָׁם (שמות ד) וְאֶת הַמַּטֶּה הַזֶּה וְגוֹ’, וּבִגְלָלוֹ נִצְּלוּ. שֶׁאִם תֹּאמַר שֶׁהָעֲנָקִים הַלָּלוּ עָזְבוּ אוֹתָם? אֶלָּא בָּאוּ לְקַחְתָּם, וְהָיוּ שָׂמִים מוּלָם אוֹתוֹ מַטֶּה, וְנִצּוֹלִים (וּבוֹרְחִים) מִלִּפְנֵיהֶם. רַבִּי יְהוּדָה אָמַר, מָסֹרֶת שֵׁם הַקָּדוֹשׁ מָסַר לָהֶם מֹשֶׁה , וּבִגְלָלוֹ נִצְּלוּ מֵהֶם.
\n73. רַבִּי חִיָּיא אָמַר, שְׁלֹשָׁה שֵׁמוֹת נִקְרְאוּ: נְפִילִים, עֲנָקִים, רְפָאִים. וְכֻלָּם הֶאֱרִיכוּ יָמִים. נְפִילִים נִקְרְאוּ בַתְּחִלָּה. אַחַר כָּךְ כְּשֶׁהִתְחַבְּרוּ בִּבְנוֹת בְּנֵי הָאָדָם וְהוֹלִידוּ מֵהֶם, נִקְרְאוּ עֲנָקִים. אַחַר כָּךְ שֶׁהָיוּ הוֹלְכִים וּמְשׁוֹטְטִים בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה וּמִתְרַפִּים מֵאוֹתוֹ שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה, נִקְרְאוּ רְפָאִים.<\/div>\n

\nRabbi Yitzchak said that the spies had Moses’s staff with them. When the giants of the land, came to get the spies, they put the staff in front of them and the giants runaway. The Zohar connects ‘Take in your hands this staff’ with ‘Take this’ as a reference to the staff that God ‘energized’ for Moses to make miracles.

\n“וְאֶת הַמַּטֶּה הַזֶּה תִּקַּח בְּיָדֶךָ אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲשֶׂה בּוֹ אֶת הָאֹתֹת.”
\n“”You shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs.””
\nNumbers 13:17<\/a>
\n“וַיִּשְׁלַח אֹתָם מֹשֶׁה לָתוּר אֶת אֶרֶץ כְּנָעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם עֲלוּ זֶה בַּנֶּגֶב וַעֲלִיתֶם אֶת הָהָר.”
\n“When Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, he said to them, “Take this up there into the Negev; then go up into the hill country.”
\nThe spies were saved because of the holy name that was on Moses’s staff. <\/p>\n

\nRabbi Chiya said that the people of the land were called Nephilim, Anakim, and Rephaim. They lived a long life. The word נפילים Nephilim comes from the root word נפל that means ‘falling’. This name was given to them because they were the children of rebel angels that mixed themselves with the women of this earth (Genesis 6:2<\/a>). ענקים Anakim means giants to describe the size and strength of the children that came from the unification of angels and humans.
\nRephaim רפאים means ‘weak’ to describe the weaker state they were when they disconnected themselves from the supernal<\/a> world.<\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nThe spies were safe by using the Staff Moses gave them for their protection. The holy name of God that was on the Staff was pure light that pushed away darkness that was on their path.
\nThe Zohar uses a single form ‘name’ while the Zohar in other places states that there were names like the 72 names and the 42 letter name (initials of the Ana B’Choach).
\nThe Sages tell us that the whole Torah is considered as one name of God because the force behind every letter is the same, and it is the Endless Light, blessed be He.
\nThe physical existence of the spies in this world was protected, but their souls were not because their evil speech brought mortality on them, and they died before entering the Holy and Promised Land.
\nThe lesson here is that the Torah, which is the name of God guides us and protect us, but if we don’t follow the spiritual laws of the Torah and engage in negative actions like evil speech and other inequities, our souls get affected and lose the merits for the world to come and the ‘Promised Land’.<\/p>\n

One of the essential things that s important to connect to the sacred text of Torah and Zohar is the Hebrew letters<\/a>. I strongly recommend that each one of you study the Hebrew letters<\/a> and know them by heart. They are the forces the constructed the Torah and all the worlds. Just by recognizing and reading the Hebrew letters<\/a>, we reveal great light that is part of the Endless Light.<\/p>\n
