Zohar Vayishlach<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJacob was limping after he wrestled with the angel. It implies that when Israel<\/a> is in exile, they experience pain and suffering. When the day will shine for them, they will look back with pain and wonder about the suffering they had to go through in the past. Then the sun will rise and they will have rest.<\/p>\n

\nAt daybreak, Jacob overcame the angel that could have power only at night. Jacob has control of the day and the weakened angel had to ask Jacob to be released. <\/p>\n

\nGenesis 32:33<\/a>
\n“עַל כֵּן לֹא יֹאכְלוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת גִּיד הַנָּשֶׁה אֲשֶׁר עַל כַּף הַיָּרֵךְ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה כִּי נָגַע בְּכַף יֶרֶךְ יַעֲקֹב בְּגִיד הַנָּשֶׁה.”
\n“Therefore, to this day the sons of Israel<\/a> do not eat the sinew of the hip which is on the socket of the thigh, because he touched the socket of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.”
\nWe are forbidden from eating the sinew of the hip, even not giving it to dogs.
\nThe name of this sinew is ‘גִּיד הַנָּשֶׁה’ (pronounced ‘Gid Hanasheh’) it means the sinew that makes us forget. It is where the evil inclination lies and makes us forget about the connection to the Torah. <\/p>\n

\nThe angel that wrestled Jacob couldn’t hurt him because all of Jacob’s body parts were strong and helped Jacob in the fight. The only place the angel found weakness is in the sinew of the hip because it is the place of the evil inclination that connects to the negative side. Because the angel, Sam-el<\/a> was from the same side, he could hurt Jacob in that place. <\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nWhen the angel Sama-l<\/a>, injected negative force in the sinew of Jacob’s hip, he affected the spiritual root of that sinew and that is why we are forbidden from eating this part of the animal. After Kosher slaughtering, this sinew needs to be removed before eating the meat around it. It’s not an easy process to remove this sinew and most Kosher slaughterhouses sell the back thighs of the animal to non-jews. <\/p>\n
