103. וְהַיְנוּ שֶׁרַב הַמְנוּנָא סָבָא, כְּשֶׁהָיוּ לוֹמְדִים מִמֶּנּוּ הַחֲבֵרִים סוֹדוֹת הַחָכְמָה, הָיָה מְסַדֵּר לִפְנֵיהֶם פֶּרֶק שֶׁל דִּבְרֵי שְׁטוּת, כְּדֵי שֶׁתָּבֹא תוֹעֶלֶת לַחָכְמָה בִּשְׁבִילוֹ. זֶהוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב (קהלת י) יָקָר מֵחָכְמָה וּמִכָּבוֹד סִכְלוּת מְעָט, מִשּׁוּם שֶׁהִיא הַתִּקּוּן שֶׁל הַחָכְמָה וּכְבוֹד הַחָכְמָה. וְעַל זֶה כָּתוּב, וְלִבִּי נֹהֵג בַּחָכְמָה וְלֶאֱחֹז בְּסִכְלוּת.
\n104. רַבִּי יוֹסֵי אָמַר, יָקָר מֵחָכְמָה וּמִכָּבוֹד, כְּלוֹמַר, כְּבוֹד הַחָכְמָה וְהַנּוֹי שֶׁלָּהּ וְהַיְקָר שֶׁל הַכָּבוֹד שֶׁלְּמַעְלָה מַה הוּא? סִכְלוּת מְעָט, מְעַט שֶׁל שְׁטוּת, מַרְאֶה וּמְגַלֶּה אֶת כְּבוֹד הַחָכְמָה וְהַכָּבוֹד שֶׁל מַעְלָה יוֹתֵר מִכָּל דַּרְכֵי הָעוֹלָם.
\n105. כִּיתְרוֹן הָאוֹר מִן הַחֹשֶׁךְ, תּוֹעֶלֶת הָאוֹר לֹא בָאָה (נִרְאֵית) אֶלָּא מִתּוֹךְ הַחֲשֵׁכָה. (וּלְעוֹלָם) תִּקּוּן הַלָּבָן מַהוּ? הַשָּׁחֹר. אִלְמָלֵא הַשָּׁחֹר לֹא נוֹדָע הַלָּבָן, וּמִשּׁוּם הַשָּׁחֹר מִתְעַלֶּה הַלָּבָן וּמִתְיַקֵּר. אָמַר רַבִּי יִצְחָק, מָשָׁל לְמָתוֹק בְּמַר, שֶׁאֵין יוֹדֵעַ אִישׁ טַעַם הַמָּתוֹק עַד שֶׁטּוֹעֵם אֶת הַמַּר. מִי עוֹשֶׂה אֶת זֶה מָתוֹק? הֱוֵה אוֹמֵר זֶה הַמַּר. וְהַיְנוּ שֶׁכָּתוּב (שם ז) גַּם אֶת זֶה לְעֻמַּת זֶה עָשָׂה הָאֱלֹהִים. וְכָתוּב טוֹב אֲשֶׁר תֶּאֱחֹז בָּזֶה וְגַם מִזֶּה אַל תַּנַּח אֶת יָדֶךָ.<\/div>\n

\nEcclesiastes 2:3<\/a>
\n“תַּרְתִּי בְלִבִּי לִמְשׁוֹךְ בַּיַּיִן אֶת בְּשָׂרִי וְלִבִּי נֹהֵג בַּחָכְמָה וְלֶאֱחֹז בְּסִכְלוּת עַד אֲשֶׁר אֶרְאֶה אֵי זֶה טוֹב לִבְנֵי הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשׂוּ תַּחַת הַשָּׁמַיִם מִסְפַּר יְמֵי חַיֵּיהֶם.”
\n“I searched in my heart how to gratify my flesh with wine, while guiding my heart with wisdom, and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives.”
\nWhen they studied the secrets of wisdom from Rav Hamnuna Sava<\/a>, he was adding for them parts of folly so they will benefit from the wisdom as it is written “a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor”;
\nEcclesiastes 10:1<\/a>
\n“זְבוּבֵי מָוֶת יַבְאִישׁ יַבִּיעַ שֶׁמֶן רוֹקֵחַ יָקָר מֵחָכְמָה מִכָּבוֹד סִכְלוּת מְעָט.”
\n“Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, And cause it to give off a foul odor; So does a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor.”
\nWith folly to compare we can establish a strong connection to wisdom.<\/p>\n

\nRabbi Yossi said ‘respected for wisdom and honor’ means that the preciousness and beauty of wisdom with the honor that comes from above are revealed with a little folly that is the best way to show the honor of wisdom.<\/p>\n

\nThe value of light comes only from the darkness as the verse says ‘light excels over darkness’. Without black, white wouldn’t be defined or valued. Because of black, white is elevated and gets the honor.
\nRabbi Yitzchak says that it is sweet and bitter. A person can’t tell what is a sweet taste until he tastes a bitter taste. The existence of bitter defines sweet. It is similar with any opposites, white and black, light and darkness, sick and healthy. If there was no sickness in the world, we wouldn’t be able to define healthy.
\nEcclesiastes 7:14<\/a>
\n“בְּיוֹם טוֹבָה הֱיֵה בְטוֹב וּבְיוֹם רָעָה רְאֵה גַּם אֶת זֶה לְעֻמַּת זֶה עָשָׂה הָאֱלֹהִים עַל דִּבְרַת שֶׁלֹּא יִמְצָא הָאָדָם אַחֲרָיו מְאוּמָה.”
\n“In the day of prosperity be joyful, But in the day of adversity consider: Surely God has appointed the one as well as the other, So that man can find out nothing that will come after him.”<\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nWe understand from this study that opposites created in the world so we can appreciate the good from the bad, and Light from darkness. To achieve that we learn about the opposites.
\nEcclesiastes 7:18<\/a>
\n“טוֹב אֲשֶׁר תֶּאֱחֹז בָּזֶה וְגַם מִזֶּה אַל תַּנַּח אֶת יָדֶךָ כִּי יְרֵא אֱלֹהִים יֵצֵא אֶת כֻּלָּם.”
\n“It is good that you grasp this, And also not remove your hand from the other; For he who fears God will escape them all.”<\/p>\n

When we know that there are people on the dark side, we are happy to be on the Light side that makes us feel better. It gives us added responsibility to illuminate those in the darkness, heal the sick, support the poor, and more.
\nThe meaning of “Escape” from the verse that says “For he who fears God will escape them all” is that faith<\/a> and certainty protect us from falling into the negative side of the opposite. <\/p>\n
