\n323. כְּמוֹ זֶה, וַיִּשָּׂא בִלְעָם אֶת עֵינָיו. עֵינוֹ כָּתוּב, אוֹתָהּ עַיִן רָעָה (שְׁתֵּי עֵינַיִם הָיָה זוֹקֵף. אֶלָּא בְּשָׁעָה) שֶׁרָצָה לְהִסְתַּכֵּל עֲלֵיהֶם. וַיַּרְא אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל שֹׁכֵן לִשְׁבָטָיו. מַה זֶּה שֹׁכֵן לִשְׁבָטָיו? אֶלָּא שֵׁבֶט יוֹסֵף הָיָה שָׁם וְשֵׁבֶט בִּנְיָמִין. שֵׁבֶט יוֹסֵף שֶׁלֹּא שׁוֹלֶטֶת בָּהֶם עַיִן הָרָע, שֶׁכָּתוּב (שם מט) בֵּן פֹּרָת יוֹסֵף. מַה זֶּה בֵּן פֹּרָת יוֹסֵף? שֶׁהִתְגַּדֵּל לְכַסּוֹת עַל אִמּוֹ. בֵּן פֹּרָת עֲלֵי עָיִן, שֶׁלֹּא שָׁלְטָה בּוֹ עַיִן הָרָע. שֵׁבֶט בִּנְיָמִין, שֶׁכָּתוּב בּוֹ (דברים לג) וּבֵין כְּתֵפָיו שָׁכֵן. וְכָתוּב יִשְׁכֹּן לָבֶטַח. מַה זֶּה לָבֶטַח? שֶׁלֹּא פוֹחֵד מֵעַיִן הָרָע וְלֹא פוֹחֵד מִפְּגָעִים רָעִים.<\/div>\n

Zohar Balak<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nGenesis 33:6<\/a>, 7
\n“וַתִּגַּשְׁןָ הַשְּׁפָחוֹת הֵנָּה וְיַלְדֵיהֶן וַתִּשְׁתַּחֲוֶיןָ.”
\n“וַתִּגַּשׁ גַּם לֵאָה וִילָדֶיהָ וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ וְאַחַר נִגַּשׁ יוֹסֵף וְרָחֵל וַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּ.”
\n“Then the maidservants came near, they and their children, and bowed down.” “And Leah also came near with her children, and they bowed down. Afterward, Joseph<\/a> and Rachel came near, and they bowed down.”<\/p>\n

In preparation for the meeting with Esau, Jacob arranged his family in the order described in Genesis 33:2<\/a>, where mothers were in front of their children and Rachel and Joseph<\/a> at the end. When they came near Esau, they bowed down, and we read that Joseph<\/a> was in front of his mother<\/a>, Rachel.
\nThe Zohar explains that the good and beloved son, Joseph<\/a>, who was righteous in the world, saw that Esau looked at the women and was afraid for his mother<\/a>. He moved in front of her and spread his arms. His body expanded six Amah (cubit) in every direction to hide and shield his mother<\/a> so the eyes of the wicked couldn’t rule her.<\/p>\n

\nNumbers 24:2<\/a>
\n“וַיִּשָּׂא בִלְעָם אֶת עֵינָיו וַיַּרְא אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל שֹׁכֵן לִשְׁבָטָיו וַתְּהִי עָלָיו רוּחַ אֱלֹהִים.”
\n“And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel<\/a> encamped according to their tribes, and the Spirit of God came upon him.”
\nSimilarly, Balaam had the evil eye and wanted to look at the Israelites<\/a> and awaken the evil Klipa<\/a> that is called ‘עַיִן רָעָה’ ‘Evil Eye.’
\n‘And (Balaam) saw Israel<\/a> encamped according to their tribes.’ Balaam saw that he couldn’t inflict harm on Israel<\/a> because of the protection they had. The twelve tribes were arranged around the holy Tabernacle, including the tribe of Joseph<\/a> and the tribe of Benjamin. The tribe of Joseph<\/a> is protected from the evil eye because it was said about him ‘בן פורת’ ‘fruitful son’ that could grow and expand himself to cover his mother<\/a> from the evil eye of Esau. It also says ‘בן פורת עלי עין’ ‘A fruitful branch by a spring (also ‘eye’ עין).’ It means that no evil speech could rule him. On the tribe of Benjamin, it says;
\nDeuteronomy 33:12<\/a>
\n“לְבִנְיָמִן אָמַר יְדִיד יְהֹוָה יִשְׁכֹּן לָבֶטַח עָלָיו חֹפֵף עָלָיו כָּל הַיּוֹם וּבֵין כְּתֵיפָיו שָׁכֵן.”
\n“Of Benjamin, he said: “The beloved of YHVH<\/a> shall dwell in safety by Him, Who shelters him all the day long; And he shall dwell between His shoulders.”
\n‘Dwell in safety means that he has no fear of evil eye and no fear of bad injuries.<\/p>\n

Lesson;
\nJoseph<\/a> was about 15 years old at the time they met with Esau. At this age, he was already righteous and spiritually connected to Yessod<\/a>. Because of his high connection, he could bend nature and expand his body to cover and protect his mother<\/a>.
\nSince Joseph<\/a> was high and connected to Yessod<\/a>, where all nourishments come down to the world, he couldn’t be affected by evil speech or evil eyes. <\/p>\n

This sequence of letters that comes out from the blessing of Jacob to Joseph<\/a> provides protection from evil eyes.
