85. וְעִם כָּל זֶה לֹא דָן אוֹתוֹ כָּרָאוּי לוֹ, וְהֶאֱרִיךְ עִמּוֹ אֶת רֻגְזוֹ וְהִתְקַיֵּם יוֹם אֶחָד שֶׁהוּא אֶלֶף שָׁנִים, פְּרָט לְאוֹתָם שִׁבְעִים שָׁנִים שֶׁמָּסַר לְדָוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ, שֶׁלֹּא הָיָה לוֹ מֵעַצְמוֹ כְּלוּם.<\/p>\n

\nThe Holy One Blessed be He did not punish Adam immediately as he commanded before the sin.
\nGenesis 2:17<\/a>
\n“וּמֵעֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע לֹא תֹאכַל מִמֶּנּוּ כִּי בְּיוֹם אֲכָלְךָ מִמֶּנּוּ מוֹת תָּמוּת.”
\n“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat, for on the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.”<\/p>\n

Hashem<\/a> held his anger and let Adam live for one day, a day of the Holy One Blessed be He.
\nPsalm 90:4<\/a>
\n“כִּי אֶלֶף שָׁנִים בְּעֵינֶיךָ כְּיוֹם אֶתְמוֹל כִּי יַעֲבֹר וְאַשְׁמוּרָה בַלָּיְלָה.”
\n“For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night.”
\nAdam lived 930 years because he gave 70 years of his life to King David that didn’t have life because he was supposed to die at the time of birth. <\/p>\n

\nThe Holy One Blessed be He does not judge a man according to his evil deeds, which he always does, because if he did, the world could not exist. Instead, God extends his Mercy with the righteous and with the wicked. And with the wicked he holds his anger even more than with the righteous, so that they may return with complete repentance<\/a>, that they may have shared in this world and in the world to come, as it is written;
\nEzekiel 33:11<\/a>
\n“אֱמֹר אֲלֵיהֶם חַי אָנִי נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה אִם אֶחְפֹּץ בְּמוֹת הָרָשָׁע כִּי אִם בְּשׁוּב רָשָׁע מִדַּרְכּוֹ וְחָיָה שׁוּבוּ שׁוּבוּ מִדַּרְכֵיכֶם הָרָעִים וְלָמָּה תָמוּתוּ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל.”
\n“Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel<\/a>?’”
\nExecuting judgment on people is delayed to give them time to do good. It is like Terah that brought out Abraham to the world and became a good and strong root for the world’s future.<\/p>\n

\nWhy did Adam give 70 years to David?
\nWe receive the Light in Malchut<\/a> after making vessels to draw the Light from Chokmah<\/a> and Binah<\/a> through the Seven Sefirot of Zeir Anpin<\/a>.
\nThe soul of King David came to this world from a point of darkness to represent Malchut<\/a>. He was supposed to die at birth, but when Adam saw the future generations and the significance of the Light of David, he gave him 70 years from his own life.
