We have learned that &ldquo;&#1488;&#1498;&rdquo; (however) divides, meaning half of the day is prohibited for eating leaven, and half is permitted. So here, too, where it is written, &ldquo;However, on the tenth of the month,&rdquo; it could be said that half of the day is forbidden (for eating) and half is permitted.<br>\nRabbi Abba answered: Even here, regarding &ldquo;&#1493;&#1456;&#1506;&#1460;&#1504;&#1468;&#1460;&#1497;&#1514;&#1462;&#1501; &#1488;&#1462;&#1514; &#1504;&#1463;&#1508;&#1456;&#1513;&#1473;&#1465;&#1514;&#1461;&#1497;&#1499;&#1462;&#1501;&rdquo; &ldquo;afflicting your souls,&rdquo; the concept of division applies, for the affliction only truly begins from midday onwards, meaning after the time of eating.
