Song of Songs 7:2<\/a>
\n“מַה-יָּפוּ פְעָמַיִךְ בַּנְּעָלִים, בַּת-נָדִיב; חַמּוּקֵי יְרֵכַיִךְ–כְּמוֹ חֲלָאִים, מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָמָּן”
\n“How beautiful are thy steps in sandals, O prince’s daughter! The roundings of thy thighs are like the links of a chain, the work of the hands of a skilled workman.”<\/p>\n

The word for sandals is ‘נְּעָלִים’ and the root is נעל. The other meaning is ‘lock’ like the prayer of נעילה ‘Neilah’ at the end of Yom Kippur that ‘locks’ the energy of the day for the coming year.<\/p>\n

The Zohar explains that this verse refers to the beauty of the light that the Shechina receives at the end of Holidays and the seventh of Pesach. The thighs are the aspect of Netzach<\/a> and Hod<\/a> that hold the vessel. The ‘skilled workman’, ‘אמן’ is numerically 91 as in the combination of the upper and lower name of God יאהדונהי.<\/p>\n

The foot wear is the aspect of the negative side and we must separate the connection to the Holy from the other side<\/a>. When God invited Moses to come closer to him, he asked him to take off his shoes.<\/p>\n

Exodus 3:5<\/a>
\n“ וַיֹּאמֶר, אַל-תִּקְרַב הֲלֹם; שַׁל-נְעָלֶיךָ, מֵעַל רַגְלֶיךָ–כִּי הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה עוֹמֵד עָלָיו, אַדְמַת-קֹדֶשׁ הוּא.”
\n“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground..’”<\/p>\n

Songs 3:11<\/a>
\n“צְאֶנָה וּרְאֶינָה בְּנוֹת צִיּוֹן, בַּמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה–בָּעֲטָרָה, שֶׁעִטְּרָה-לּוֹ אִמּוֹ בְּיוֹם חֲתֻנָּתוֹ, וּבְיוֹם, שִׂמְחַת לִבּוֹ”
\n“Come out, you daughters of Zion<\/a> (Shechina in Malchut<\/a>), and look at King Solomon (aspect of Zeir Anpin<\/a>) wearing the crown (Connection to Binah<\/a>), the crown with which his mother<\/a> (Binah<\/a>) crowned him on the day (The Light) of his wedding, the day his heart (Torah) rejoiced.”<\/p>\n

The unification of Zeir Anpin<\/a> and the Shechina is like a wedding because when the bride and groom come together they can bring life to the world and that is the joy of Creation.<\/p>\n

In order to connect spiritually to the upper levels, we should separate ourselves from the negative side by cleansing ourselves and come with pure consciousness. Only then we can enjoy the light that comes down to Malchut<\/a>. Shabbat is our Holy day that we can get very close to Binah<\/a> and draw Light for the entire week. We clean our homes and ourselves and disconnect from all work activities that can invite the other side<\/a> and take away from that light.<\/p>\n

After publishing this article I was asked <\/strong>
\n“So is it better to be barefoot ?”<\/em><\/p>\n

Answer:
\nWe should not walk without shoes because the earth was cursed after the sin (Genesis 3:17<\/a>) “cursed is the ground for thy sake”. We must walk with shoes everywhere to separate ourselves from the ‘cursed’ ground because it channels a lot of negativity that in our times it is growing. In the Final Redemption God will fulfill his promise Zechariah 13:2<\/a> “and the unclean spirit I will pass out of the land.” And then we will be able to walk bare foot.<\/p>\n

The Priests<\/a> could walk in the Holy Temple bare feet because it was a holy place as when Moses came closer to God in the ‘Burning Bush’ event.
\nOn Yom Kippur that is a holy day we can walk just with socks and not bare feet because we are among other people and we need some kind of separation.
\nOn the 9th of Av that is the opposite day to Yom Kippur, we can also walk with socks for the reason that negativity have full control and it doesn’t matter if we wear shoes on not. <\/p>\n

All spiritual connections and meditations should be done while having shoes or foot covers. If we are on a bed or above ground then its okay to wear just socks or any foot cover.<\/p>\n
