Rabbi Natan was a survivor of  the decrees of  Tach ve'Tat (5408-5409; 1648-1649, the Chmelnitzki Massacres) when 100,000 Jews in Poland were massacred.  In his book 'Yavan Metzulah' he described all the horrors and sufferings of the Jews during those 2 years.

He was a student of Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Edels , the MaHarSha (1555-1631). He served as the head of the Jewish court in Liverno (Italy), from there he continued to Romania and became a rabbi in Yasi and Fokashni. He later continued on to Ungrish-Brod we he served as a Darshan (expositor of Torah lessons). When the Turks besieged the city of Vienna, the Hungarians rebelled against the Austrians and destroyed the city of  Ungrish-Brod. They killed all the Jews that were present in the synagogue, among them was Rabbi Natan Neta.
